This reminds me when I saw Knocked Loose there. One of the top 5 shows I've ever attended, at end there were people jumping from the bar area into the pit.

 

This ad just popped up in my Instagram feed. Maybe I’m looking too much into it, but could this possibly confirm that MCS/Thrice/Circa will be playing the same stage, maybe?

 

I keep seeing similar ads. But instead, it's Bayside with FYS and Citizen. So. Maybe?

Could also just be bands they think would look good together in an advertisement.

Has anyone else seen any of these?

So yeah, I think that might be related to stage designation. I got one at one point that had Rancid, but I'm pretty sure it only listed them. Wracking my brain as to what the Taking Back Sunday one I got said now...

Also: I'm not sure if anybody had posted this yet, but it looks like Sunday is officially sold out again. Tickets still available for Friday and Saturday.

Also I don’t recall if we are only getting one act not already on the festival for Thursday or numerous but if it’s the latter I could see Thurston Moore playing since he’s in town and free that day OR hear me out…a Sonic Youth reunion?

 

God damn it. I’m getting into town the night of the 15th. Thruston’s on my bucket list since I know I’ll never get to see SY :(

 

You could totally go if you have the energy! The show starts at 9:30PM and I’m sure there will be an opener too.

Why would Thurston Moore bring that band back together, have them rehearse for what would be their only set in 2021, and not get the big payday they would get from a normal festival appearance... So they could play in front of a very reduced crowd that may or may not care about them?

More importantly: If you were Riot fest, why would you let Sonic Youth play a secret surprise party you aren't selling tickets for instead of, say, pulling like Coheed or somebody off the main festival and putting them on Thursday? When it could be used to sell tickets.

I'm not down on anybody for wanting some of these things to happen. Because honestly, a lot of it would be really cool and special but... There's just no way a lot of what people is speculating will happen.

EDIT: Maybe Thurston solo. But I wouldn't put money on it since he's paying Chicago already that week. Just not so sure he'd be that motivated, hah.

I mean, it's more than a pipe dream it's like... A near impossibility. I'm definitely not begrudging people's hopes and dreams!

Like a lot of the ideas that have been floating around, though, logic and reason basically mean it won't ever happen. And I'm including a few of my own "pipe dreams" in that pile as well! Haha.

You're right though. It'd be sick! And I guess there's a chance Thurston could play. Even if he were to do a solo set of just Sonic Youth songs, that'd be bucket list-worthy for some folks.

The site still says it's only one act unannounced for Thursday but that can change. I'd love for it to be more than one, TBH...

 

My flight gets in after the show starts. Ugh. Haha

 

Primavera Sound LA in 2022 will be the same weekend as Riot Fest. Most likely they will have Pavement on their lineup.

I wonder if there will be overlap between the 2 festivals.

Well I hope these are indicative of stage set ups, cuz my biggest fear of the weekend is a Pumpkins vs Coheed conflict.

 

I mean, it seems like they all line-up with what we would anticipate so far...

How long a set do we think the Pumpkins are going to play?

 

my guess is an hour & 20, so on at 8:40, with all other bands except rebel ending at (or before) 9. i think NIN is the only fully unopposed headliner. and curious to see if both RTJ and FNM go to 10

 

I think it all depends if those Mellon Collie rumors are true. But at this point, I’m kinda starting to doubt it. So maybe we get like an hour and a half? I’d be down with that

 

I really hope you are right about NIN playing unopposed to other bands. Although I still think they will play against MGK and/or The Ghost Inside

 

That would make me so happy. It would mean I'd get to catch at least some of NOFX. But yeah, that all feels about right...

I could definitely see FNM going until 10, but that all depends on the amount of time they want to play, how long sets are during other points of the day, etc.

I really doubt the rumors are true, but that would be incredible!

I’m dreading a potential RTJ/FNM conflict. But I hope maybe their set times are staggered so there’s not too big of an overlap

 

Yeah… I for sure thought it would happen since Billy said in an interview last year that they’d do it. But since no tour or anything has been announced by now, I really doubt it’ll happen at this point
