Menzingers being on that during riot weekend and not playing riot is a big slap in the face for sure

I was really hoping four chord was gonna be the weekend after since I usually make the trip

Possibly. Looking at this line-up (and seeing what we know about after shows) it feels like bands might be trying to "fill in" as many gaps as reasonable to make up for lost time.

What I'd like to see is Riot releasing a limited number of single day tickets for Thursday evening and expanding the offering a little more. I'm guessing there may be bands wanting to get booked that they are turning away...

EDIT: Also? Can't find any info on Rise Against openers. But that tour run ends in late August, anyway.

At least it's not 350 Fest ganking the bands. That was a bummer for me to see the last few years.

I forgot about 350 Fest. I wonder if that will happen this year.

Same here. Guess I’m just gonna roll over my tickets into 2022.

I just wanted to clarify Simple Plan is from Canada, bc it's been so long I've seen their name on a festival... I almost forgot

Yeah I would love an opportunity to get a Thursday ticket (life prevented me from jumping on them last year). I don't really care who is playing haha. But I will say, the idea of doing 4 days is making my knees and ankles cry right now.

I mean, in reality it's three full days and an evening outdoor show that will have much less walking around...

But yeah. I kinda hope they open up limited tickets and maybe bring in an extra band or two or three (who aren't playing the proper festival) than was originally planned. That would be pretty cool.

I feel like most of us are from out of town- are there any actual Chicago punx in here? Like anyone who’s in a band or affiliated with diy venues?

what are the odds we can get an unofficial matinee show before the preview party on thursday?

I'm thinking Thursday of trying to visit the Art Institute before the Preview Party considering there is currently zero news on when gates open

I always feel like there's little stuff that pops up around the festival each year. I'm flying in Wednesday AM and plan on hitting up a museum or two, the Lincoln Park Zoo, maybe the aquarium, and a few vegan-friendly restaurants before Thursday night...

So, selfishly, I kinda hope that if something music related pops up it doesn't interest me at all. Hah. But also that anyone in this thread is interested if anything that pops up...

  15. I'm in a couple bands that have played unofficial and semi-official Thursday night shows before the fest in past years, but I haven't heard anything about this year. I'm sure there will be something going on at Gman and Burlington though.

I forgot that the GMan did that! I had a blast when Brendan Kelly and Derek Grant did that acoustic pre-show there in 2015.

Still no announcement about Pup dropping from the lineup. Weird.

Not sure how weird it really is. I don't remember them really ever addressing bands dropping off unless it was headliner/sub-headliner level. As much as I love PUP, they aren't really at the level where I think Riot Fest would feel compelled to make a statement.

  19. If y’all ever need another band, everyone in mine from Minneapolis will be there Thursday and would love to rip a gig while in town!

Yeah, Riot Fest (and most festivals really) are kinda shit about acknowledging drop-outs unless it's a headliner or a sub that they are explicitly replacing. I kinda get it, but also think it's annoying - because people are gonna notice it, regardless. And there's others where, you could announce it very deliberately on social media... And day of the show will be pissed that they aren't there.

It's particularly tricky this year too, because I'm guessing they are anticipating a few other drop-outs due to COVID (e.g., Fucked Up who are from the same province, I think). And it would be a weird look to announce one, then another the following week, etc. Hopefully they do it all in bulk at the end. But doubtful.

Is this like that time you kept insisting that Operation Ivy was, without a doubt, going to headline this year or...?
