I’ve already made my feelings know on this topic. For some reason they think Riot Fest books some bands as a meme instead of the fact that there is some legacy to it. And with Devo it is even worse because they wouldn’t really even had been that out there of a booking back when Riot Fest was an indoor punk festival, let alone now.

Even when they book a "meme" or "novelty" act there's always something about the artist that links to a broader story, historical context, or overall influence on other artists. The same can be said for the less than standard bookings that have happened that wouldn't fall under "novelty" in any stretch (thinking specifically of Merle Haggard, here).

As far as bigger names go, they don't book "out of genre" acts just to book them. There's usually a reason behind it, or some sort of connective tissue, that links them to the overall aesthetic of the festival.

Devo is pretty clearly "in genre," but I think their influence on the alternative/punk/indie music scene gets pretty lost beneath the goofy hats and obtuse lyrics. So I kinda get how people only peripherally familiar with the band might not fully "get it." And to be totally honest, if the Village People weren't on the line-up in 2019 it would have been the B-52s getting all that talk...

The consistency in the Riot Fest tweeting over the years, considering that it's apparently changed hands a couple of times, is pretty impressive. I feel like they must have some sort of very loose guidance that they follow to keep the "voice" the same.

PRB has some homework to do if they want to catch-up with Riot Fest in this regard.

I kinda want single day lineups tomorrow over Friday but it’s gonna be Friday

  7. so they’re probably announcing the rest of the bands tomorrow?

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

    Yeah that’s my guess

They sent out an e-mail out today reminding people who kept their 2021 tickets that the 2022 discount "will no longer be available starting next week." It was a targeted e-mail, but they usually include a little blurb about anything that might be announced soon...

And there's nothing in the e-mail about any announcements today. So yeah, I'd assume we get the rest of the bands tomorrow.

I have just assumed this whole time that it would be Friday. It has made me a lot less anxious than last week.

Someone on Reddit pointed that Hospital Bracelet is no longer in the poster on Riot website

    Saves The Day still in.

I'm operating under the assumption that Saves will be dropped in the next iteration of the poster. Hospital Bracelet was the last band on the poster so it was probably like, a 5-minute fix. Saves positioning would require a bit of shifting and probably a longer review process.

Assuming they already have the other poster basically ready to go, it would make sense for them to remove the name from that poster and just up the new one when it's ready with the name removed from that one.

At least I hope that's the case. If Saves is still on the line-up when the new poster drops, I'll be writing an e-mail. And probably tweeting at Thursday about it.

i imagine because HB publicly said they were taking time off after everything which made it more official, while STD is has been quiet (from what ive seen) and probably seeing if it will 'blow over' or not, and i don't mean that in a way to to downplay chris' bs at all, but more so that it just sucks that he sucks and all the other members would be out of paydays too... damn why it always gotta be the singer acting a fool, hardest ones to replace...and i probably just answered my own question

I just realized, Jane’s Addiction isn’t on Lolla, so maybe they’re still in play for Riot?

Maybe. Although the same could be said for the dozens of bands with festival dates around Riot Fest that are also free that weekend. >-p

The usual "they have a gap in dates and aren't playing Chicago" logic is kinda falling flat this year with so many bands doing odd runs of dates that skip over obvious cities, a spotty handful of festival appearances, etc.

Of all the bands in the mix for a top tier spot to be added at Riot, I think Jane's would probably be my #1 choice! So I'd love for that to be the case!

True that! Since they’re playing a few festivals this year, it makes sense to me that Riot would be the “Chicago-Area Fest” they’d play

Genuinely curious to see who we get tomorrow

It could be later today (I know it's doubtful) .. they've made no mention of it being tomorrow yet.. and Riot does what Riot does yano lol

Off the top of my head we have Jane's Addiction, Rise Against, the Offspring, Death Cab For Cutie, and Machine Gun Kelly all potentially in the mix. There's probably a few more higher-ups that I'm forgetting too. And it's most likely just going to be one or two in that tier of acts.

But yeah, you gotta figure it's going to be Riot Fest or bust for most of them at this point.

I'm more excited than I thought I'd be for this next round off adds. It has potentially to really flesh out the line-up for me and I have no idea who it might be!

fingers also crossed for the Menzingers, hum, & the Go-Go's (I was convinced they'd be added after they didn't have a Chicago date on their tour)..

They may be an unannounced Thursday band, same with Naked Raygun who have a new album coming out
