I could see Julien more than Phoebe. Either would be cool. They've had like Cat Power and stuff so depending on the vibe of the year I don't think this is impossible.

please do, although I think you've heard his music at some point before

i can say this, I saw Dwight play on the same day as Gaslight Anthem, Ben Folds Five, & Pearl Jam at a festival in Florida, and he blew them all away, and those are 3 of my favorite bands ever

I honestly feel like the "wild card" act this year is going to be "Weird Al" Yankovic just based on the interview with Riot Mike where he said that this year's was somebody they have been trying to get for a while who books very far out.

I love them both, but I just can't imagine myself being able to get into them at like, 3 in the afternoon with the sun beating down on me. Haha. But that's more of a "me" problem than anything...

I'd be all for that happening, but I would be lying if I said I would see them if there were any other act I even had a remote interest in playing up against them. Just by virtue of the setting.

Weird Al is more of a third from the top than a wild card, but would be amazing at Riot

I saw Julien at Pitchfork in 2018 and it was pretty hot then and had a great time. They both just fit the vibe of the festival which is why I think they would be cool at Riot. Hell, Phoebe could play with Better Oblivion and that would be a good fit too. Boygenius could also play and I feel it would garner a good crowd, even on a more "stacked" day.

The problem with them though is unless you're close it gets hard to hear quick and the vibes really diminsh when you're not close to the stage. I was towards the back for that Julien Pitchfork show and it was still decent but I was like focusing on trying to stay focused. And it's just not realistic that people in the back of a fest crowd are going to not talk

I would prefer getting RATM since I have never seen them. I've seen MCR a couple of times (including the Black Parade tour), so I could wait for them if I had to choose between the two.

Having seen rage several times going back the early 90's, you do NOT want to see them at Riot Fest. Hope for Soldier Field or literally anywhere that will have lots of room and even more security.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

For me personally, I would rather have Rage at Riot Fest and MCR anywhere else.

I think I am much more likely go to go see MCR elsewhere than I would be for Rage, but I would be guaranteed to still see Rage at Riot.

I honestly think Rage crowds are not going to be what they used to be anymore. Fests have changed too much, people are more casual fans (which I'm not saying as a bad thing, as one of said casual fans of Rage). Idk I just feel like a crowd can only get SO crazy, but then again they're just known for their sets being crazy so maybe people go off just based on that. I barely slept so sorry if that made no sense

I always though riot should go after alanis morissette. I wonder if they ever approached her. Feel like she fits the bill perfectly...

It's really hard to say. They haven't played a show in like, a decade or so. But I do think you're right. Your average festival crowd isn't quite so eager to "go off" in an aggressive way, these days...

Which is a good thing, in my estimation. So long as they're moving and not just standing there with crossed arms or whatever.

She would be just as good a fit as Liz Phair. Sadly, there's a Tinley Park show in July so I think that would rule her out.

Ya I'm not saying it's going to be dead or people won't care, I'm just not sure it's going to live up to the hype of like what I've always heard about their last Lolla performance and stuff. But I mean it all depends on the setting and the show and a hundred other variables so who knows.

(Also I think the difference between Liz Phair and Alanis Morisette is just that Alanis is a lot bigger. Riot will book an act like that for an afternoon slot, but might not want to waste a 6 pm+ slot on her.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

I think Riot could book Alanis later in the day in the same way they booked Patti Smith later in the day last year.

I'm with you. Their crowds will go off unlike those of other acts at festivals now.

Yeah I saw that. I think that would've been perfect. I used to think cranberries would've been amazing too.

Lean on that 90s alt stuff

I was honestly thinking of her in the Interpol or Father John Misty-type slot from last year. Would depend on who the headliner is.

...But we're all talking hypotheticals here as it's not happening this year. :-)

I legit just read the Lolla thread for two minutes, confusing it with this one, and thought a bunch of you had predicted that Lana Del Ray and the Black Keys were Riot Fest headlining material.

I feel better now that I'm home.

I would love Julien Baker to play Riot. She would fit perfectly as she has a lot of punk influence in her music even if its not heavy.
