I said that a couple pages back but HARD AGREE. It's ridiculous there is no entrance there. Someone replied that it may be that way because having an entrance there fucks with the layout but I do not buy that. Pitchfork, which is right off the Ashland green/pink line stop, has an entrance literally a block away (if that). I went for a day this year and it was SO CONVENIENT. I could have seen more of certain sets had there been an entrance right at the California pink line stop. It sucked major ass.

 

All they would have to do is put a second entrance near the food even that would be better! Just put one between the backstage areas and the food.

Logistically, of course, I don't know how feasible that is. But just based on what I have seen the past two years, this should be possible?

 

If I remember correctly they did have an entrance near the L in 2015 but that was a totally different setup.

Regardless, that walk sucks

 

Why do so many locals hate the Douglas Park location? Is it just a pain to get to from popular residential areas?

As an out-of-towner that stays downtown near the Loop, Douglas is 10x better than Humboldt. The 20 minute train ride is amazing compared to the hike to Humboldt.

Trains can be rough at the end of the night but I walk to Kedzie to avoid the California. Plus, Kedzie station is actually closer to the entrance than California.

 

Idk what you guys are talking about with food, I had great food all weekend. Although my buddy had Bacci's and agreed that it wasn't great, but I had pizza from another tent that was much better haha

 

Kind of agree with this. I've had Bacci at their restaurant in WP and it was meh. But I thought the food was fine. I feel like it's more utilitarian at a festival. "I need to this to keep on a-rockin'" One place did have cheese curds though and they were DOPE.

 

I’ve had so much great food at RF over the years, bummer that this year was a step down.

 

I had great food all weekend! That pizza looked really good but I'm glad I didn't have it now lol

 

I had a buddy in from California who had never been out this way. He was like "The amount of cheese and beer I've consumed this weekend is insane" and I'm like "Welcome to the midwest my friend!" haha

Edit: He had never even heard of cheese curds hahaha

I’m just not seeing how Douglas Patk is a hassle to get too? Granted I’m not from Chicago but there’s two CTA stops within a twenty minute walk and as far as I can tell the trains run all over the city. They maybe could have put on a few extra trains/carriages between 8.30/10.30 but I don’t think accessibility was an issue.

 

As someone who lives in Chicago, I don't mind Douglas at all. I understand if you're close to Humboldt then it sucks having to go to Douglas but Douglas is so much more convenient

 

The riot flu is hitting me hard today.

I had the worst sore throat and headache the last two days. My body definitely punished me for overdoing it a bit.

 

I've been draggin' ass at work these past couple days. Tired. Coughing. Slightly lost my voice (which says something cuz I never really lose my voice). Still pulling dirt out of my nose haha yuck.

I will not stand for this Bacci pizza slander.

It's massive slices of pizza, guaranteed to fill you up for a cheap (relative) price, and is portable. No, tt's not a good representation of Chicago-style pizza but goddammit it's not half bad. Plus - you're at a festivalm what are you expecting? Gordon Ramsey?

 

Also have the Riot flu, it's not terrible but I am feeling slightly under the weather and was the third day, getting in the crowd for Alkaline Trio surely didn't help but I had never been able to see them before so it was a lot of fun anyway but I just felt so exhausted but all in all I had a really good time and was impressed by a lot of bands I never thought I'd take the time to see otherwise.

 

I too am coughing like a 90 year old smoker. It's all that second hand cigarette and weed smoke. It's brutaaaallll

If the worst part about this weekend was the pizza, it just goes to show what a solid festival Riot is.
(but also, saw that pizza and knew I would be wasting my money if I got that bc growing up in Buffalo has made me the biggest pizza snob)
