This looks so good on the PS5, and love how it uses the adaptive triggers.

RE4 is my favorite game of all time and this is such a good spiritual successor to it, I almost can’t believe it.

This. They did a great job of maintaining a lot of the charm and atmosphere of 4 while still creating a modern continuation of the story from 7.

Came in here to say exactly this JFC that giant baby thing that chases you may be the most intensely horrible & scary thing I've experienced in a video game, pure nightmare fuel [/SPOLIER]

Finished it yesterday. Loved it. Some thoughts:

I was semi-expecting (hoping?) it would be longer based on what I read, but still felt like a full story. Ethan actually having been taking over by the mold earlier felt a little bit like a stretch however I think it still worked in context. It also kinda coincides with Mia actually having been a fake thanks to Miranda AND it helps explain how he just straight up reattaches his severed hand with no medical supplies whatsoever/survives literally everything. All the callbacks to 4 were probably my favorite part - The Duke's shop, the crows, the valuable treasures that can become more valuable, using buildings as stronghold defenses and barricades, and even both the setting of the village and castle initially. Really was hoping for another score-based shooting gallery though. I think that the replay value seems high but time will tell - love the shop setup style with challenges too. Overall, a great game.

I will say this too - i almost broke my controller on the 3rd ball tilt statue thing out of extreme frustration.

Haven’t put much time into this yet, but I have the last stone to get into the castle. Everything is hitting the right spot of creepy and cheesy that I expect from a modern RE.

Really started hitting my stride last night but it was 11:30 so I had to stop. This game looks soooo good on PS5.

House Benevento was the most scared I’ve been in a horror game since PT

The first half is truly incredible and some of the best RE/horror gaming content. The second half... is not that. Super curious what direction they go in the future though.

Aight, haven’t finished 8 yet but wanted to say at the beginning I was a bit bummed by how this wasn’t as disturbing as RE7. Then halfway through the castle section I started really getting the hang of the controls. Once I got to the framework of the story I fell in love. Reminds me of play MGS3 for the first time!

Without spoiling too much, that tail end is definitely gonna be the big argument about this game. I personally feel like the first half is in line with the survival horror aspect of the series (RE1-3/kinda 4/7/etc) whereas the second half was 100% the "action movie" side of it (RE 5/6/Revelations/etc). As a fan of literally every single thing relating to the series (aside from a number of the live action movies), I LOVED every single second of the game.

    SPOILERS OPINIONS

Ethan being infected with the mold makes absolute sense and I wanna say this was even a fan theory. I did hate how we never ended up seeing his face, but that's whatever.

I do love how abruptly the game jumped the shark with the killdozer type machine, I lost my shit there. That's up there with the Chris volcano boulder punch from RE5 for most ridiculous moments in the series.

I hope they keep up the survival horror in the next game though. I assume we'll be playing as his daughter, but who knows. All I know is I need more RE injected into my blood as soon as possible.

Gonna be replaying it to solidify some opinions, but everything up to the factory is up there with the best of the best for the series. Whether I love this or 7 more is to be seen. I do love me some slasher/exploitation horror, but my anxiety issues liked being able to reasonably fight back in this one.

I also loved the way they tied in the lore for this trilogy to the OG trilogy with the letter from Oswell Spencer saying that the village is what inspired him to make Umbrella. They definitely are playing with the series' lore again which gets me all giddy.

Overall I'm very satisfied and can't wait to go back through. 10/10, super solid.
