I don’t mention politics unless the girl has something political on her account. I don’t want to kick a beehive. It’s probably because I’m not politically active myself and mainly keep to myself. I enjoy it if the other person is the same. If someone does mention politics then, from my experience, they are the type to want someone to be 100% like them or they consider them a bad person. Agreeing 90% on politics is the same as not agreeing at all.

If she has such views that I disagree with then there will probably be red flags that i’ll pick up within a month of being around her IRL.

 

I also believe there is more to someone than their political opinions. There are people who have the same opinions as me and they are assholes while there are really nice people who don’t share the same opinions as me. When it comes to judging the full character of someone I wouldn’t solely look at their political opinions, but now they treat people closest to them compared to people they don’t know.

I understand why it’s a big deal to others, though.

 

politics is def big for me, but really only the equal rights aspect. person has to be 100% on board with equal rights for all walks of life or it simply isn't happening.

i think the equal rights stuff inherently goes hand-in-hand with a lot of other beliefs (can't imagine a pride supporter being an NRA nut) but yeah anti-vax is another good big one

 

A majoriry of the time, yes. There are some who, like mentioned above, are for equal rights but it doesn’t make them a good or tolerant person. They can still treat a lot of people like crap.

 

I have friends with different views in politics. Where I live it's like an inevitability. We just talk about other things. A partner would need to have that in common tho

 

exactly, I'm not about to enter into a relationship with someone under the assumption that just because their profile said "trump supporters swipe left" that they are a leftist. Politics for me is huge, and like you said, an extension of their morals and principles. They can be "anti-trump," and that's cool, but I want to avoid us being several months into a relationship before we're talking around downtown denver and they make an awful comment about the transient and homeless population or something. If they're not anti-capitalist/imperialist/heteronormativepatriarchy, they're not for me and it's best to get that out of the way up front.

 

As as far as politics beliefs go, red flags for me are mainly racism and sexism because those two things will be picked up by me easily and I wouldn’t like it. I don’t know how I would be with someone who is fiscally different than me. I’m a social democrat but I wouldn’t throw out someone who is pure capitalist or pure socialist.
