ugh I just need to vent about this a sec.
on my okcupid profile under music I have a line about how I "I like almost all music except for one exception: EDM and all its subgenres" and for some reason this line really hurts a lot of feelings I guess?? because the amount of guys I have messaging me to tell me I'm wrong about my own music taste, jesus christ.
Like let me be clear this has happened many times. but tonight I get "no electronic music at all? what?! Art rap and 90s pop* are both electronic music though? I'm confused lol"
I know that on it's own it seems harmless and irrelevant but when you get so many messages that are all trying to do the same thing: somehow prove you wrong or mansplain music to you.
I'm like, first of all my profile says EDM not electronic music. Idk why we are acting like Nsync and Open Mike Eagle could be called, in any universe, EDM. The EDM/festival "scene" is huge around here and it's not my cup of tea at all. why can't I state that on my profile without people trying to message me and tell me that I'm wrong in saying that.

first off I'm so relieved that I could come here and vent that and ya'll get it. I was unsure if people would tell me I was just overreacting or reading into things or whatever, which would have been very frustrating because like I said this is a thing that has happened on numerous occasions so you start to notice the pattern.

lmao. I'm in the tampa bay area. It's common to go to festivals (obviously florida has SEVERAL of them annually), and go see DJs on the weekends and other various hobbies that tend to overlap that 'lifestyle/scene'. What's a way to say that I'm not interested in that scene at all? I thought saying I don't like EDM would get the point across but nope apparently not.

Like everyone's looking for some kind of "gotcha" they want me to admit "yeah there are a handful of songs that I do enjoy that, in some way, that are EDM/its subgenres/influenced by it" but what's the point?? overall speaking, it's not what I'm into. it's like they want to smugly say HA see! you thought you didn't like it but you DO!

Can't stand it when someone has to tell another person that their taste in something is wrong or they have bad taste. It's uncalled for imo and we don't have to like what others like. People need to let others be sometimes. All those guys just need to stop. Sorry you have to deal with all those messages. It's no fun.
