    Meetup is great! I found a Nintendo 3DS group here in NYC and it's been great for meeting people and getting out of my little bubble.

    Do you MeetUp people go alone? Not awkward?

    @ghastlyfeline Prestigious

    Maybe the first time it was? After a year of being single and without a lot of friends in a big city I'd rather it be awkward at first and get through it, rather than hole up in my room which I can do any other time I want.

    Working in New York, with networks like MeetUp there is no excuse for me to not meet new people.

    Oh well....

    My understanding is that the point is to go to them alone. Most of them are geared towards meeting people with similar interests. Turning up alone isn't weird at all.

    Sometimes worth remembering that all you need to do is vocalise the things you want.

    Within reason of course. :crylaugh:

    I didn't really know where to put this but yeah.

    So this guy who lives near me, we'll call Liam, was dating a girl I'll call Kirsty. They broke up just before I met them through friends in the autumn of last year, but I've become semi close to Kirsty, and Liam seemed like a decent guy at first. Then one of my best friends mentioned out of the blue that Kirsty turned up before the relationship ended with a bloody face, and that she said Liam had full on punched her in the face. After talking to her about this, it turns out that like a group of about 10 people in our local area know about this, but she sweared us all to secrecy and says we can't tell anyone. That was a few months back.

    Now it turns out they might be getting back together. Is there anything I can really do?

    Went to my cousin's wedding last night. By the end everyone was v drunk and v honest. One woman, probably in her late 30's, came up to me, shook my hand, and then said in a drunken slur, "I just wanted to say that you're fuckingdfjg gorgeous!" and proceeded to ask for a selfie with her, which I happily obliged. Then another girl (very drunk), close to my age, came up to me and introduced herself and said, "Hi I'm Veronica....you're dangerous. You're exacytlt my type and I really want to get your number but I have boyfriend." This wedding was in L.A. so I was just like, "I appreciate that, but I'm actually from the Bay Area." Turns out she was too. Thank god I was basically sober at this point because, to be honest, if I was as drunk as her there is no doubt in my mind we would have found a room to be alone in, but instead I opened the door behind her and told her she had to leave before she did anything she'd regret haha. Also, it was a gay wedding and a lot of dudes grabbed my ass and hit on me, which I took as high compliment. All in all, it was a pretty big confidence boost, as I have been feeling super low on myself as of late. Still single AF waddup B-)B-)B-).

    You can offer her your support, regardless of what she does, to underline that your bond isn't contingent on her "making the right choice", particularly given that there are reasons many women return to abusive relationships. Spend time with her without the prospective partner, plans for if she decides to opt out of the relationship, so she doesn't have to worry about being abused by this person, link her up with websites and local agencies that help people in abusive relationships, as well professionals in mental health. Basically, all of this:
