I spent the last 24 hours straight with the guy I'm...talking to, or whatever. It was really great and I just wanted to squeal a little bit about it

 

Tried asking a girl out and she said to message her on Facebook later, then after that convo I realized I said something along the lines of "doing something some time" and now I'm in my head about whether or not she got that I meant a date and not just hanging out, and I messaged her on Facebook and we talked for a minute before I sent a message clarifying that I was asking her out and she hasn't looked at the message yet and it's been almost 2 hours and I'm freaking out people ugh

 

Worst feeling. Put on a movie and try not to think about it until your phone buzzes

It's one of the least pleasant realities of modernity. So much of our connection is digital that we stare in anxiety waiting for something to buzz or ding way more than must be healthy.

 

And people get caught up in mind games in order to not come off as desperate or more invested than would be warranted, even if the conversation would go perfectly naturally if it happened face-to-face.

 

Yeah that dissonance is hard to wrap your head around. When I'm with the girl I'm dating 9 hours will pass in what feels like a second without a pause in conversation. Then I go home and send a text and immediately am back in the "I shouldn't double text" or "Why isn't she answering?" or "Is this too needy?", etc. I literally am having to condition myself.

I fell for someone very quickly recently but I'm really scared that I fucked it up already and I'm gonna be single by tomorrow. I know it seems overdramatic but I'm really broken atm and I didn't really know where else to talk about it. I'm not really looking for any real input or anything. Just needed to get these feelings out somewhere.
edit: So I was completely overthinking things, I guess. We're still together. I'm kind of realizing I have a lot of abandonment issues and trauma to work through.

I had a realization last night when talking to a very good friend that a big reason why I don't date is that I immediately reject the notion of someone liking me. It's a strange thing to realize, but when someone likes me I'll just refuse to notice it because I don't see it as actually being possible haha. A while back that friend brought up someone she thought liked me, and I immediately just said "Nope it's not that" and shut down any possibility of it, and thinking about it now, I'm like "...Well maybe it's not impossible." It isn't something I want to pursue, but it does make a lot of sense and help me for the future. I think.

 

Dating = monogamy?
