To be clear I'm absolutely going to be straight about it. I've been on the the other end of this way too many times to lead someone on

Hah I get that feeling. Have felt it before. But when you flip it, how arrogant is it to think you're doing her a favor by leading her on when you don't like her? That's how I told it to myself at least.

Yeah but that's only a specific subset! If I need a synonym for pasta, I'm not calling everything ziti.

    Edit:
That might be the most sterotypically Italian thing I've ever said.

What is it about this one word? Everyone fucking hates it. But...it's just a word. What mystical gross power does it have?

Smash Adams was a slightly less on the nose pop culture reference though!

Plus it could double for what his girl calls him due to his prowess.

It works on so many levels!

I went to my girlfriend's cousin's wedding today and it just reinforced that I don't want to get married to anyone.

Why not? I ask that in a very non judgmental way, but I am so excited to someday get married to someone. I just like to hear other people's views on marriage. I know they vary greatly.

For me, I find it to be just such a money pit. From the venue to the clothes to the reception venue to the food to the drinks to the honeymoon. It's money upon money upon money and it escalates quickly. Yeah, some people's parents help out with weddings but that wouldn't be anything that would happen in my current situation.

I also just don't see what changes. MY girlfriend's cousin doesn't love his wife any more tonight than he did yesterday. I love my girlfriend, a ring or a ceremony doesn't change my feelings for her. That would just leave tax purposes (which vary depending on each person's income levels and how you file) or emergency things (situations in which my girlfriend wouldn't be able to make medical decisions on my behalf were I to be incapacitated), or insurance purposes (I am going to be on my girlfriend's insurance starting Oct. 1st but I don't get her dental or vision because we're not married).

It feels outdated to me but I think the absolute heart of the issue for me is that I don't want to be celebrated. I don't mind birthdays and whatnot, but I don't want my relationship to be the center of attention of 25-200 guests. I don't want presents. I don't want to go through super stressful planning so people can watch me follow weird traditions like shoving cake into my girlfriend's face because 'lol, great relationship' or play "the shoe game" where you hold up each other's shoe to answer questions like "most likely to stop to ask directions." I don't know. It feel so indulgent and time consuming and money-wasting that I would be doing it just because that's what you do at a certain point.

It's already become a small point of contention in our relationship as she would like to get married some day and I do not and it's difficult to convey that I don't want to get married to anyone, which comes across as I don't want to marry her. It's touchy.

Edit: I hope that this doesn't come across as aggressive or demeaning to those that look forward to getting married or are/have been married, that wasn't my intention.
