Wait, you get prestige at a post count? haha I thought that was something that was just given to people who were on AP for years before switching to chorus. Back to peasant status.

 

Those cliques were so intimidating cause everyone had their big inside jokes and stuff. But I kinda like not getting involved too much and being a bit of an outsider in the sense that I don't know enough about anyone here to have drama lol. I mean I'm sure drama isn't super common but it seemed frequent on ap

 

I assume the rules now are the same as they were on AP, it's something like 10,000 posts in a year or like 2,000 in two years? I don't know for sure, don't quote me on that. However, when the site changed over, a lot of Prestigious users got automatically grandfathered in by Jason so we didn't have to basically start from scratch.

 

I just remember one big clique that basically seems dissolved now.

 

Goddamn, just looked and it's 15,000 posts. Don't know if I'll hit that in my life time. I will be a peasant until the day I die, then I'll just be a peasant in hell.

 

This site feels like a real community, I don't think I've felt so comfortable online in a long time

 

Tbh I don't even know if it was one clique or even a clique. I mean people on here have their inside stuff too so maybe it comes off that way also lol but I think users were also more mean so that added a layer of intimidation. I feel like it was only the last few years of AP where it felt cool and not mean spirited.

 

I basically stayed in NHL thread and video game thread in my time on AP. I barely reached the prestigious status after like five years there.

Here on Chorus I've explored every subforums and I've already hit 2,000 posts in like my first year. It's way cooler over here.

 

That's interesting, I feel it got bad in the last year or two of the site, but I was around for only about four years total. Were you around for a while longer than that?

 

Oh wow, that's pretty hefty. That's not quite the same as the rule on AP, if I recall correctly. Yeah, 15000 is a lot...I think I was around 9000 after four years on AP, but then again I've been much more active here than I was over there.

 

I totally agree that it's more rewarding to dive into everything here.

 

I've been around since 2005 or 2006. It used to be pretty bad. Sexism, homophobia, racism etc totally accepted and laughed along with by big users and staff. The last few years I think Jason and staff made a pointed effort to try to improve things so it wasn't as bad to me, though of course it had problems still.

 

I had like 50K posts on AP and was around for a decade on the site. Chorus is way less closed off to new people. I, myself, am trying to be way more open and less aggressive. For a long time, I was a sarcastic bully on AP as a bored twenty-something and I'm learning to not be so combative in here. If I come off as such, please call me out on it -- old habits and such -- as I want this to be the most welcoming place on the internet.

 

I'm more active here than I was on AP too. People are generally nicer here. It seemed like every thread was at least 70% arguing near the end of AP, with my health it was a kind of toxic and damaging atmosphere for me to be in. (though, I stayed because it was the only place where people talked about bands that I liked)

 

Yeah, as Kiana said, it was pretty terrible from my frequent postings around 2005-2008 or 2009 when I slowed way down. Tons of bullying, homophobia, misogyny, etc. I think it got better the last year or so of AP but that was probably because I frequented only like three threads.

 

Oh, I see. I feel like that must have mostly disappeared by the time I got there, because I never saw much of that. I remember actually being surprised that there was a place on the internet that wasn't full of that stuff.

It's not perfect now either, but I think it's much improved and will only get better. Totally agreed, it's been great to have a place to discuss music that most people I know irl don't listen to.

 

Yup. I still don't really dive into album threads because all I can really say is "that song is cool" or "eh that song isn't very good" but overall a lot of the subforums are a lot more fun to explore.

 

I get that, I usually only go into album threads if I'm a big fan of the album or if it's an artist I've never checked out and want to absorb some knowledge.

 

No one I know IRL listens to band's I like, it kind of sucks. I find myself kind of pushing myself to like bands my friends like even though none of them try to like anything I do. Like, Manchester Orchestra I only listened to a lot because it's one of my friends favorite band, and I also listen to Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens because that's the only kind of stuff my girlfriend likes. Basically, the forum is really nice because I can actually fangirl about Anthony Green without judgement. haha

 

I think I talk about everything but music here lol I don't discuss it as much as most cause I tend to vibe more with pop forums, even discussing non pop music

Also relationship related, I regret not taking the box sets me and my ex bought together for cheap when hollywood video shut down. I felt too bad but that was before I realized he deserved it lol

 

back to this dating stuff

I asked my friend to join me to go to baseball game this weekend. She mistook it as me asking her out on a date because she is single again. That felt awkward to have to say it wasn't date and I just wanted someone to go watch baseball with me.

 

Oops. That's a tough line to navigate.
