Lol that's how it is here too. I swiped thru my friend's app once and it was just a whole lot of that. Occasionally there'd be a man posing in front of a car but those would be the fake profiles. on the way to my parents house tonight with a lifelong friend who has met my parents several dozen times we hit a deer.

first time i've ever hit a deer and as far as that experience goes i could not ask for a better situation / outcome. saw it coming, was able to slow down, no one behind him, hit the deer at like 20 mph, sounded like the equivalent of going over a speed bump too fast, deer seemed to kind of jump so it didn't fully land on my car, got right up and ran off, no damage done to my car or to us. i've known people who have hit deer and are then paranoid or have a bit of PTSD about driving in the country at night, and while it was a bit nerve wracking on the way home, all in all it was okay and nothing significant happened.

my friend, who again has met my parents several dozen times and knows what they're like, was a bit furious they didn't ask any questions or seem concerned. it's weird to express the relationship i have with my parents. i know they care and love me, but we don't talk about "serious stuff" regarding ourselves, which to others can make it seem like they don't care. she was upset that they didn't ask if we were okay or ask any questions or even say anything when we left. i tried to explain, and again reminder that she's seen them do this before with other things, but she was having none of it.

made me realize, "yep, i'm never going to introduce them to any future girlfriends. people who have known them for two decades are still confused by their behavior, strangers would stand no chance"

I'm honestly so oblivious. When I was young I had crushingly low self esteem and it did not occur to me that anyone would hit on me. And tbh like nobody did, prob partly to the lack of confidence and social skills I had. I remained oblivious until about college so now I can at least tell by the eye contact but not rly anything else. It still happens very infrequently due to the aforementioned population of men who hold up dead animals and wear camo.

Sometimes I think back to the missed opportunities and cringe. One makes me wonder about what my life would've looked like if I had realized the guy I liked was flirting with me cause I never realized and shortly went on to date someone abusive. And then in college a guy was so cool and shared my interests and I knew he was interested but I guess I thought I needed something serious which I didn't.

Honestly sometimes I think I'll be single forever because I get paid to listen to people's problems and hear it all day that when I get home I'm like NO. NO TALKING.

 

i miss signals all the time and just assume it's them being nice or just their personality. i never think it has anything to do with them being interested in me lol. i've even had GIRLFRIENDS tell me, "you do realize i'm flirting with you right now and you're ruining the moment right?" and i'm like HUH? WHA? I thought you were just talking funny

i also never give the impression of interest or "hitting on" someone. i never make eye contact with anyone (i always talk with wild hand motions and look at the wall next to someone as if i'm reading a script from there), never ask anyone out unless i am 110% sure they're interested (for this to happen they basically have to say to me, "yes, i am honestly interested in you and would like you to ask me out now. i promise i'm not lying") and never give the impression of giving a shit. like, i'll ask you what's new and have conversations with you, but i will NEVER steer the conversation into romantic or flirty territory. i don't live in those cities, i don't even know where they are on the map or what exit they are.

i've had female friends tell me, "i was really interested in you but you always give the impression of enjoying being single, hating kids, loathing marriage and you hate texting, so how am i supposed to date that or think that you like me?" to which i totally agree. so it's weird to know that the majority of my female friends once liked / had a crush on me and i single-handedly DESTROYED any of those opportunities without even purposefully trying.
