If we're talking about respect, shouldn't a face to face then be how a breakup should happen? The phonecall just seems like a weird middle ground between face to face and a text. I've broken up with plenty of people via text and I'm one of the bravest people I know

Honestly, a text is ok depending on how long you've been together and stuff. Have you bonked? No text. Phone call at the very least. No bonk? Prolly not that serious.

Having sex with someone doesn't entitle them to a phone call either.

Maybe I just hate phone calls more than y'all, but I ignore 99% of phone calls because I hate talking on the phone. Send a text and i'll reply when I see it or have time to give it a response.

I think a text is okay if you're not exclusive. Once you're exclusive then a phone call is the minimum, if it starts becoming more serious, then a face-to-face is a must. Sometimes things can happen and you text nasty things to each other and that is how you end up breaking up, but if you're planning a break-up, that's generally how I look at it.

Having sex with you is different though. That’s quite the sacrifice they’re making

I did not know how to break up with my first girlfriend. I was totally in love with her but she was super jealous and always accusing me of insane shit and one morning were on the phone and she started saying some crazy stuff and I like broke down over the phone crying and was like, "I don't think I can take this anymore." And then she asked if I was breaking up with her and I said yes.

Ok, so I probably should have finalized that over the phone but instead (she lived about 45 minutes away) we agree that she should come over so hops on the ferry which takes like over an hour to get to where I live. Then we finalize the breakup irl and but also have sex???? But then break up. But then fell into the pattern of meeting up tomhave sex? What a mess lol. I was hella young tho so I had no idea what I was doing

There isn't a limit on the relationships by which can be ended via a text. You can end an engagement via text, you can say youre getting a divorce via text, you can leave a poly relationship with some or all of the people via text. the breakup text is not constrained by societies ignorantly limited number of categorizations of interpersonal romantic, aromantic, or platonic relationships

i know ferries are a thing in modern times but I've never seen one so I still picture a wooden boat that you pay a guy and load your horses on and cross the river

On the flip side, I refrained from breaking up with my long term gf for so long because "oh it's too close to her birthday! Maybe next- oh shit that's Christmas week!?!? Can't break up cause Jesus how bout nex- fuck that's her mom's birthday party week!?!??"

There's never a good time to break up. Just gotta do it

You're right. The point you're missing though is that no one will respect you if you end your marriage by text message.
