You're not wrong..I know the stats are out there. This conversation and thought process is just foreign to me because I've never heard any of my female friends, family, nor wife convey this fear. Ever. Yea..they've mentioned meeting creepy guys in the past, but the whole power imbalance thing has never been a conversation in real life for me. I also acknowledge that I'm fortunate.

I don't think the right thing to do here, especially after the conversations the few pages, is to dismiss @Kiana 's and almost all other women's experiences of very real and dangerous verbal, emotional, and physical harassment/assault/abuse that comes with dating, online or apps or otherwise, with personal anecdotes. I don't think/hope that you didn't mean for it to come across that way, but it kind of did, at least to me.

And depressingly enough, I just googled "online dating women's experiences messages" and this is what is in the suggested section at the bottom of google. It almost all is suggestions for men on online dating

 

No disrespect at all to you or Kiana. I was not being dismissive, however, I'm tired of the one way street around here. Thank you for your post, but I really don't know how to continue this conversation without sounding like a heartless prick.

 

I don't think the conversation should be too difficult if people are open and honest. Automatic dismissal of different perspectives is never helpful - not that anyone has done that yet, thankfully.

I think it should be sufficient to acknowledge that women absolutely have more to fear in terms of physical danger and unsolicited harassment. That's not really debatable. However, it still makes me uncomfortable to see blunt minimization of men's complaints about other issues they face. The heterosexual dating world is an awfully complex things with lots of asymmetries and various issues disproportionately affecting one side or the other. Again, the most serious among these issues are undoubtedly skewed towards women. Yet, that doesn't mean certain subclasses of men don't end up in predicaments of their own which significantly affect quality of life.

And ya I agree with the above, dating pretty much sucks for everyone. I think everyone can be sympathetic to the various grievances different people may have.
