just want to say i was there last week haha, we visited porto. it was mid but the egg tart ruled.

 

We’re in Lisbon now and really loving it. Headed to Porto (with stops in Nazare and Sintra) before the end of the week. I’d rather stay here, but we’ve got friends up there so y’know.

 

I think about this post almost every day this is peak funny

 

Got a haircut today. Had my barber shave down the sides and the back right to the skin which I've never done. I dig the final product. It's very Viking-esque.

 

whoa, I’m heading to Porto and Lisbon in August with my wife for our 10 year anniversary. Any tips/suggestions? 4 nights in each city.

I had a great time in both cities! But I’m also the type of traveler where I mostly just walk around and pop into random shit. I’m not big on planning itinerary. Porto had a feeling that was kind of moody and gothic that I really liked, and Lisbon felt more akin to LA and some areas are incredibly tourist trap-y. Alfama and Pink Street were the areas we spent the most time in. The former is very old and peaceful. It’s the only part of the city surviving the 1755 earthquake. The latter has got this one club called Music Box that i loved where we went and danced. It’s also worth stopping out in Sintra, felt like being in a video game. Nazare might have some good pro surfing you can watch. Biggest waves on earth, the most freaked out by nature I’ve ever been lol

Food pretty much everywhere is great. Not an expensive country at all. If you wanna DM me feel free, happy to give more specifics if you want them!

My partner and I went last January and loved Lisbon. You have to watch the sunset over the city from Sao Jorge Castle. The terracotta rooftops look stunning against the setting sun, and it's just a really chill vibe. Eat about a hundred pastel de natas, and definitely go to one of the ginjinha bars and drink too much as well.

I didn't like Porto as much, but the port/wine is excellent, and the views from above/below the bridge are beautiful. I don't think it helped that we went the same weekend as a biker festival, so hundreds of motorcyclists were in town, and the noise of the bikes drowned out the city lmao. Also, avoid francesinha, which looks fun and is their special dish, but that sandwich is the saltiest, nastiest thing I think I've ever had haha.

 

I guess where I’m at now is since we are doing Lisbon….should we skip Porto and do the Algarve/Faro instead?

spent the weekend in moab. southern utah is a different planet

 

I know others that have had a great time, especially if you went further into the Douro valley or did the wine tasting (if you're into that). I guess we weren't there long enough to really give a definitive answer. I'm sure you'll have a great time wherever you decide to go, Portugal is pretty rad.
