PR to rehabilitate them so that people will focus on the already worked on album instead that is forthcoming and will be on a label and will make them money

Do reviews typically not come out around release? I’m not being confrontational, I just literally don’t see why everyone is so mad that they released an album review around the time the album came out. It’s not even a glowing review. The review was not written by the same person who wrote the article. I fail to see some grand conspiracy where Pitchfork is profiting massively off of an album review.

(I’m literally not attacking anyone, I’m just confused)

Again, with normal albums, yes. But even then short notice releases can take up to a week to be reviewed. I understand they had the album beforehand, but I sincerely do not think there was enough time between the article and the review for people to properly process everything.

Who gives a fuck. It’s a fucking music review. Of course they were going to review it. If you haven’t had time to process it then uh that’s your choice not to read it.

It was a surprise album to us but surely the author of that article has been working on it for weeks, I’m sure the reviewer has had an advance for a while as well. They could have had it since last November for all we know

I don't know, I feel like you're making up rules for a situation that we've never really had to encounter before. It's perfectly okay for you to not feel ready for it, and I'm not judging that, but you can't say how it is supposed to be done. I don't know what would have changed if the Pitchfork article came out three weeks ago rather than three days ago. Would that have made you feel more ready for it? We all expected the album to be released at some point considering it was mastered before any of this came out a year ago. It seemed obvious the original writer had heard the new album already, but that's not weird either. The crew at Chorus drops hints about how great albums are months before they are released to the public. Those comments spark interest, and can assist in locking in preorders for those albums. Is that inherently a bad thing? Did I hear that the new All Get Out record is great because it is, or because it helped me click the submit order button? Not all public relations are designed to be evil, but of course it creates a narrative, that's the whole point. While they probably decided on when to release the article, they decide when to release every article. That's what they're supposed to do.

Y'all, someone close to the victim literally just said that they were encouraged to call out the band/piece on it going against the wishes of the victim. Why are you still pushing back?

Many people on here need to stop trying to invalidate other people’s feelings/reactions and just form their own, and post them respectfully

Yes, it’s creates a narrative, a narrative that the victim told those close to them that they could openly challenge

I guarantee they’ve had it since last November. That doesn’t mean the review needed to get published immediately. I mean the review came 12 hours after the album was out. Barely any time for people to really process what the album being out meant in this whole mess and how it would affect things moving forward.

Then that’s the end of the discussion. Ill go back to secretly listening when I’m alone and not promote or support the band in anyway. Bumping this thread keeps them in the discussion and we shouldn’t do that

Yeah I can certainly agree that a review coming this closely after everything else is not a good look at all.

I’m so confused. So the victim didn’t agree with the article??

Eh the thread is a double edged sword. There’s still feelings to wade through and discuss and I wouldn’t want everything to get brushed under the rug and forgotten about in a week, regardless of my stance. At the same time you’re right, the thread is certainly bringing eyeballs and clicks to pinegrove. I hope people are reading with an open mind and careful consideration but I know that’s wishful thinking

I feel like most of this discussion is valuable and needs to happen. I’m still constantly learning here, and I’d imagine I’m not the only one. It’s not always pleasant, but it’s important.

sounds like they don’t agree with the narrative of the article. which is that Evan is working on himself and getting better and pinegrove are back and she’s okay with it. she obviously said they can put out the album and tour again, but beyond that it seems the picture being painted doesn’t accurately reflect their feelings. I’m ashamed with myself for falling for it. I’m not anti pinegrove and anti anyone who’s okay with listening to pinegrove, but I’m infinitely more weary about everything than I was yesterday

I’ve been told not to trust josh by some people in the industry. So yea, I’m not really taking his word as fact like most of you. I’m weary as well, but he could be misrepresenting some things.

I don’t trust josh either but I don’t think he’d lie about being in direct contact with the victim, stated publicly, and that the victim said he could challenge the narrative. I don’t like how long it took for him to finally say that instead of tip toeing around it, but I can’t deny I think he’s sincere

Also, yeah Josh's most recent tweet clears up all the weird feelings I had about his tweets yesterday. And it might come off as tone policing but I really do think this would have been a much more healthy conversation for everyone involved if he had said what he said today, yesterday.
