Defeater got stagnant, they aren't really bad records though. I guess I'm one of the few that enjoyed most of Everything You Ever Loved, but yeah, Don't Be Long was bad.

 

I'm listening to that album just now for the first time and I'm just like "Oh god why?"

 

PBTT and Touché are the ones ones I care about. I think LD are awful, still spin the MDAM debut every so often. Defeater are decent live but not very good. Even with Touché I only care about stage four.

 

La Dispute is an interesting one. I loved Somewhere at the Bottom at one point in my life, but these days, I rarely go back to anything other than ROTH or occasionally Wildlife. ROTH doesn't get the credit it deserves.

 

I loved Everything You Ever Loved

 

I think Woman (in mirror) and Woman (reading) are in my all-time top 10 of all songs ever.

ROTH is their best record IMO

 

ROTH as a whole really doesn't do anything for me, but these two songs are easily some of La Dispute's
strongest especially (reading).

 

I enjoyed Dont Be Long. And Touche is good not great, mainly because of the lyrics

 

Just to be on the safe side that was about the arrested development reference. That album can go to hell haha

 

I think anyone who looks at it objectively can see this. I get that maybe their best song is King Park, Edward Benz, Bruised Bodies, whatever, but Wildlife is EXHAUSTING to listen to all the way through. ROTH ebbs and flows perfectly throughout, and is a much more enjoyable overall listening experience for me.

I don't like the singer. Can't stand him actually. Idk. Never really liked them

 

LD is definitely an acquired taste, and I don't hold it against anyone if they don't like it.

 

I have a funny feeling that the new Defeater shit is gonna be a pretty good shift.

 

Nope. I get that he sings about important things and there is emotion behind what he writes but the execution is not good imo

 

is it just a clear and black vinyl variant? anyone got the inside scoop if there are others?

I hate to be that guy, but I'm just not feeling this new track. Minus two tracks, Keep You did absolutely nothing for me and was a huge let down. I was hoping that was a one off from PBTT just to try something different, but it looks like they are building off of the direction they chose for that album. Which I mean, more power to them for doing what they want to do. But it's just not for me personally. I will most definitely give the entire album a few spins when it comes out, as I did for Keep You. I'm just not anticipating it as much as I was now.

 

Yeah I get that. And I see that they're a fine band that write good songs, I just cannot listen to them, like, at all.

 

I agree to some extent with your comments on Wildlife, I think it is exhausting but so more so on a emotional/lyrical level. Instrumentally I find it a far more easy listen than ROTH, while being a more dynamic and streamlined album I feel the instrumentation often takes a backseat to the narrative with the exception of Woman (in mirror) and (reading).

 

I used to hate La Disputes vocals. Saw them open for Thrice a while back and thought it was some kind of joke. Then I made myself really invest some time in their discography and now I love them. His vocal style doesn’t bother me at all.
