Listened to The Black Parade for the first time, because my boy challenged me to. I liked MCR's first album quite a bit when it first came out in 2002. I didn't loooove it though. I've maybe listened to it 10 times. But yeah I wasn't as big of a fan of the one that came after that, (that's the one with the "I'm not o fucking kay!" right? ha...) and because of it, I didn't pay any attention to them after 2002. All I know about them is everyone who was in high school from 2006-2008 loved the band and I'd see their merch everywhere, and their songs came on the radio or MTV or Fuse all the time, but it just didn't appeal to me at all then.

Anyway, here we go... Time to make some enemies...

    1. The End - The whole theatrical shtick is not for me. Reminds me of Panic at the Disco and stuff like that. Really not my cup of tea. Luckily this is just a little intro thing so it's whatever.
    2. Dead - This one was pretty cool. Proper opener. I like the energy of it and the mixing/production is really clear.
    3. This is How I Disappear - The bridge is cool, but the majority of the song is meh. It's got cool energy and stuff, and again the mixing and production is great, but yeah, the song though... pffft.
    4. The Sharpest Lives - Meh song. Doesn't really have anything that is very appealing to me. This one kinda just sounds like the 2 tracks before it.
    5. Welcome to the Black Parade - Ugh haha. I forgot about this song. The chorus is catchy. That's all I've got...
    6. I Don't Love You - Nice ballad. I like this one.
    7. House of Wolves - The chorus sounds like pretty much every other song on this though. Lots of fast energy and everything cranked to 11. Doesn't stand out at all. I like the verses though. Punk rock with blues influence.
    8. Cancer - When I saw Blink in 2011 or whatever it was, when MCR opened for them, I remember being really bored during their set because I only knew a couple songs. So my brother and I just sat in our seats and kept each other entertained. And next thing I know it, we start getting yelled and screamed at by people. I guess the singer told everyone to stand up during this song, but we weren't paying attention. I only remember it was this song because I think someone said "fuck cancer!" or something during it. But yeah... that was dumb. Don't yell at me to stand up when I'm obviously not paying attention... Anyway... The song is fine. I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics, but I'm assuming it talks about losing someone to cancer, and that's obviously sad, but yeah, the song itself...
    9. Mama - Another one that kinda reminds me of Panic at the Disco or something. I can't really pinpoint it. I just really don't dig the theatrical stuff those bands do. Reminds me a lot of a bunch of stuff that was coming out around this time.
    10. Sleep - The big ass ending of this song is the best part of this album so far.
    11. Teenagers - Forgot about this song. Still dislike. Sounds like "Achy Breaky Heart."
    12. Disenchanted - I like the chorus a lot on this one.
    13. Famous Last Words - I liked the ending, with all the layering and stuff. The rest of the song sounded like more of the same, pretty much.
    14. Bonus Track - Sigh.

My general thoughts are: Great production and mixing. Like, really great. Rob Cavallo is a genius behind the board. Some songs had really cool parts. I liked a lot of what was going on instrumentally and melodically. The majority of the songs though just didn't do it for me. A lot of the songs in the top half especially blended together. The back half has more diverse kind of stuff though, which is cool. There wasn't a single song that made me say "oh shit, I gotta save this one!" I went into this album open-minded, but it just didn't click for me. Sorry, Kevo!

I'm sure most of the people here who were in high school between 2006-2008 were obsessed with The Black Parade, and probably still are. I wouldn't blame you. Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance were like THE punk rock bands around that time, since Blink-182 had broken up. I remember always seeing people a couple years younger than me sporting MCR merch, dyed bright red hair, and whatnot around this time. But for me, I just never got into it, so I don't have the nostalgia factor on my side at all here, unfortunately. I graduated high school in 2004 so I think I kinda missed the boat and was still crying over Blink-182's breakup, haha. Those were dark years... :-)

The Black Parade is not enjoyed by millions of people because of nostalgia. It’s not a blink album.
