Yeah, I mean at this point the band has proven that they can make good music no matter who is in the band, so I'm just excited for whatever is next even if it's just Hayley doing everything herself, whatevz

 

The main reason I don't like the idea of Josh coming back is because he just seems so insincere and I really feel like he held them back musically. As far as Jeremy goes...pretty sure when you sue the band and call Hayley a "back stabber," your invite is rescinded, haha.

 

I'd love to know in what way Josh 'held them back'.

 

At least he's still there :D

 

Well the first album without him took their sound way further than they ever had with him and I recall them saying a lot of that was down to Taylor taking a lot more control after Josh left.

 

Hardly means Josh held them back. And also, Hayley's said that Taylor initially started writing stuff in the vein of what they were doing before and she wasn't keen to keep going like that so made a conscious decision to do something else. It's not like Taylor immediately came out with Ain't It Fun.

Given how good the first three albums were, I don't think it's fair to say that their primary songwriter 'held them back'.

 

I don't know, I feel like their first 3 albums were kind of mediocre aside from a couple songs here and there, so I'd definitely say Josh held them back if he was responsible for those ones. (I miss the shrug thing from ap right now. haha)

 

What are you on about, the first three albums were great!

 

Idk, I don't feel like he held them back in general because obviously he wrote some great songs and helped get the band to the level they were but I still think they had probably gone about as far as they were going to with him in terms of their sound progression and I don't think they would have made anywhere near as big a leap if he hadn't left.

 

I think the first three albums range from solid to great but all of them have moments of brilliance and they continued to get better so I'm not trying to shit on Josh or anything. I just think Taylor has more to offer in terms of expanding their sound which is what I want them to keep doing.

 

There's definitely songs on each album I love, just never thought an entire body of work by them was great until the self-titled. I think Josh was talented, but inconsistent.

 

Love the first 2 albums, but haven't really cared for how their sound has evolved since. There have been some gems on the newer albums though (Ignorance, Part II, Last Hope), so I always keep an ear out for new music.

"Let This Go" is still my favourite Paramore song despite my liking every album more than their first.

 

If I was going to honestly grade their albums, I think all four of them would be 8/10s. Very consistent band, Paramore.

This is my ranking too. My favorite song by them is Misguided Ghosts though. haha

 

I think that was mine when BNE first came out. Not sure what my favourite on that album would be now.

 

I haven't listened to anything pre-Self Titled in a little more than a year outside of that song I don't think. Haha Maybe time to revisit. There were some pretty good songs on BNE if I am remembering it correctly.

 

Yeah I think most of BNE is great. Some really great songs on the first two albums too even though I don't love them front to back.

 

Yeah, I remembering really liking parts of every album. Maybe I'll listen through them all again when I have time. I've been I pressed with their growth from highschool to self titled.

Truth to be told, if you read their interviews 2013-2014 Hayley often remarks that when they recorded the self-titled album they felt free to experiment and try new things and made it pretty clear that - at least during the BNE days - there wasn't that atmosphere.

"In the past, with "all the band drama stuff", they wouldn't have been able to make this record. "With five people, it was harder to compromise," Taylor recalls. "This is the first time we've been able to throw out an idea like, 'Dude, it'd be cool to have a gospel choir', and it wouldn't get shot down.""

THIS. He's so underrated. Plus Josh solo stuff is just... terrible. He should stay where he is.
