Look, there's a real simple solution to this.

Have Chris Rock slap Will Smith. Then they'll be even and we can move on with our lives.

Gotta say, they've really managed to take one of the most batshit insane things ever to happen on live TV and make it really fucking boring.

If the slap happened ~15 years ago then it would be the defining cultural moment of the year. No less than three “[Genre] Movie” parody movies would be making the most eye-rolling references to it. It’d be unavoidable

Just watched Belfast for the first time. Holy shit what an absolutely terrible film. The most cloying nonsense. Zero sense of visual style or coherence. Just a pretty impersonal “personal” film that uses The Troubles as window dressing for a bad script and pretty people performances. A hundred Van Morrison needle drops. Absolut loathed this.

CODA was my least favorite of the bunch but this is so much worse. Actually King Richard was my least favorite

    1. Licorice Pizza
    2. Power of the Dog
    3. Drive My Car
    4. Nightmare Alley
    5. Dune
    6. West Side Story
    7. CODA
    8. Don’t Look Up
    9. King Richard
    10. Belfast

There is such a big gap between the five best movies of that group and the four worst movies of that group with Nightmare Alley a toss-up.

There was a guy here who used to get really mad about people criticizing the Oscars and he would say stuff like if you enjoyed Nomadland you can't criticize the Oscars but stuff like Green Book and CODA didn't happen twenty years ago and they will happen again. It is by nature a conservative institution and it will continue to act as such.
