  1. Aside from the detonation, I found the gym scene when he was reluctantly giving a “pro USA” speech to be the most riveting.

Shit was awesome. Let’s go. Loved it. Matt Damon was great. I know some people had some reservations about him

I was pleasantly surprised with what she was given. In a few ways she is the hero of the film - if anyone is.

This was ok, sometimes really great in spots, but good lord Nolan has made too many movies to not know how to pace one appropriately. Not every sequence needs to be cranked up to 11 with increasingly loud tense music, sometimes to the point of drowning out the dialogue. We need space to breathe.

Biopics in general really need to give up on this whole deal of showing the romantic life of the protagonist. I don’t know why screenwriters/studios feel like this is what draws people in, I feel like even the most casual viewer couldn’t care less about it. Like I’m sorry but I don’t see any reason to have cared about Florence Pugh’s character. Oppenheimer’s wife started to develop a personality near the end when she tried to make him more forceful and combative, but before that she really had nothing going on.

And in a movie with what felt like 30 scientist characters that we are told we’re supposed to care about even though we are never given any explanation as to what makes any one of them distinguishable from another, dedicating so much time to such unremarkable and uneventful side characters *who had nothing to do the one big thing Oppenheimer is known for* feels like a massive waste

I did laugh really hard at the scene near the end outside Oppenheimer’s house, when a car drives away and Einstein just appears out right behind it lol

    Did laugh at that too.

Pugh’s character makes sense because she’s one of his connections to him being accused of being a Communist. But the sex scene in the interrogation wasn’t really necessary do we care about her? Not really. But that’s mainly because Nolan is terrible at writing female characters.

Literally everyone close to him was a communist though! His wife, his brother, everyone at Berkeley

We needed to know he’s an accused Commie that fuuuuucks.

Jean in the script because her relationship with him was far too dramatic to keep out. It also showed his loyalty to the secrecy of the project, a loyalty that would be questioned later on.

I think it was more about Tatlock's suicide than it was just being a relationship that turned into a lasting fling. That's why I think it made sense to me. I believe he felt that her taking her life was fully his fault and tied into the mounting grief and despair that carries through and follows him for the rest of he movie/his life

Just got out of IMAX and yes, loved it.

A masterful character study, despite only 3-4 characters giving us any depth/arc out of the 20 or so involved.

A refreshing, less self-indulgent venture after Tenet while still feeling quintessentially Nolan. Tenet was Nolan wank, this was Nolan excellence.

  20. My friends talked a lot about how amazing the music was and I agree but man in some scenes that suspenseful loud violin did not feel earned, like guy is just a student in a classroom and we're five minutes into the movie

The sex scene there wasn’t there because we were supposed to care about her. It was there for Kitty. Kitty imagined it and we see her emotional reaction towards Oppenheimer after it as they leave the room. It gives the audience some doubt that she will come through for him when it’s her turn to be questioned. Will she support him after all that? Or will she throw him to the wolves? It adds a little tension that makes her answers hit harder.

I kept hearing in reviews that the music constantly drowned out dialogue. I found it only happened twice and I don’t think it mattered. As in, the dialogue was not the point in those moments.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

score was the best part of this but man there were entire scenes where I couldn't hear a single word of dialogue. not a huge problem say Tenet because that movie didn't give a shit about it's own story but this movie is kinda built around dialogue lol. some baffling choices there

from what I could make out though this was great. did not expect Murphy and Damon to have A+ bromance chemistry or the big twist in RDJ's courthouse drama being Rami Malek finally having a line. both of those things ruled
