I definitely loved the whole thing of Cliff having a flashback with him and Bruce Lee, cumulating with him going “Fair enough”. Goddamn, Brad Pitt was so good in this.

I thought they would go to Tate’s and kill the friends and then brad would see/hear and rescue Sharon.

maybe it's because this old man behind me had to make a noise every 30 seconds or else he would explode but I did not like this movie, definitely my least favorite QT movie.

I find it concerning that QT's first movie movie without the Weinstiens is a sort of an anti-Me Too allegory where Brad Pitt is a wife murderer who gets to be the hero through the power of no one ever bringing it up. Am I just supposed to believe his wife deserved to die or it's not that big of a deal because she was annoying for the 20 seconds she was on screen? Cliff never talks about it and we have zero context for it so it seems like it doesn't go any deeper than that which is pretty whack. Also pretty whack that he's framed as the good guy for not having sex with Pussycat because she's under 18 when clearly that's the only thing stopping him, in fact Pussycat's whole character is pretty concerning after Tarantino's words about Polanski's assault ("She was a party girl she wanted to have it"). All this and he gets to what, save Sharon Tate? I'm not saying I didn't like Brad Pitt, I think he was the most entertaining to watch and had an interesting character, but that's the problem because he gets to be that while you forget the fact that he murdered his wife and is never really accountable for that or even has one line of dialogue addressing it. I get that QT is over the top, but this movie felt so tame and I think his old man mindset is really starting to show and it's not a good look.

Also why was the Kurt Russell voiceover in the first 5 minutes and then not again for another 2 hours? Why is it even Kurt Russell? I feel like all his movies are a hodgepodge of different styles and elements but it's usually to a point, this one just felt like a mess.

Did he murder his wife? Was that confirmed?

don't think its ever confirmed, alluded to and more of an element of suspicion. I didnt take it the same way as the above post, I took it as more critical of hollywood culture or merely stating of fact that a lot of things are forgiven/overlooked in the industry

I didn't see anything in the movie pointing towards him not murdering his wife? he even says he avoided jailtime for something at one point

It just kinda seems like your trashing the whole movie over something intentionally left vague. It’s a clear reference to Natalie Wood but nothing is confirmed. I took it as more of a statement on how rumors were circulated back in the day

idk it didn't feel that vague to me because there was nothing in the movie to suggest to me it was just a rumor you even see him on the boat holding a harpoon gun lol

i also feel like I made multiple other points than just that

It’s 100% vague, and intentionally so

we're having a pointless semantical argument now. it's never explicitly stated, hence its alluded to. are we supposed to think he murdered his wife? yes but they never actually come out and say it

Really liked how the movie looked and felt though it dragged a little bit in the middle. My favorite performance was Margot by far, I thought she did an incredible job just radiating joy and life as Sharon, and I could watch her do mundane things like pack and watch movies for hours.

All in all had a really good time even though I don’t think it is a masterpiece or anything like that.

You aren't supposed to know whether or not he killed his wife. That is the whole point of the scene ending at that point. Because they were at sea, there are no witnesses. Even her behavior at that moment as the unbearably nagging wife is open for interpretation, since only Booth was there.

The movie is full of unreliable narration

Exactly. That scene on the boat is what people like Kurt Russell and his wife think may have happened. She may have been an annoying presence so they think he killed her based on that.

It is also a flashback within a flashback, so you are getting Booth's memory of Russell and his wife as well as of the Bruce Lee fight.
