This was really fun, I had a great time. It’s canon that this takes place on the Lost island right? Weird science experiments, electromagnetism, Miles is there

  3. Yeah. I’ve you’ve had any doubts about the quality of this in the months it’s been promoted, you’re absolutely right and you should not see this. Really bad stuff

    maybe the best one

  6. This was ripe for like a million dumb quips about logistical failures to endlessly and annoyingly pick apart, but the two I really cannot decide between being my favorites are

    - the mom’s big reveal to the renowned doctor that rust is bad for you

    - the swimmer asking if anyone can swim well (this one gets a bonus because he then shortly afterward discovers the reason behind the blackouts and still decides to swim)

One thing I’m still confused about is when Midsized Sedan got there and why he wasn’t older by the time the rest showed up.

Also, how would the kids know about proms and leaded aprons?

  9. I think they pretty much wrote that off as black don’t crack

Isn’t that more exposition for the millions of idiots that watch movies and wouldn’t get what was happening?

this was supposed to a quote of the post about the rust….

  12. Yeah I mean this is the movie where they cut out a cantaloupe sized tumor from a woman’s gut on the beach with a pocket knife in a matter of minutes with no adverse effects. Everything deserves questioning lol

  13. I mean I’m not gonna show the movie that doesn’t respect its viewers enough to know that rust is bad any benefit of the doubt or respect in kind lol

The rust line is an explanation for the audience. The guy tried to swim because there was no other option. Injuries heal almost instantly on the island. The movie explains these things.

It’s a movie about people aging years in a matter of minutes and people are nitpicking the dumbest shit.

  16. No other options? Lol man it was like literally moments before that he recommended incrementally walking through the rocks and then didn’t even bother trying. And again, the rust, yes read above!

This is how “film criticism” works apparently. You let the movies you like slide but decimate the ones you don’t lol.

The characters don't have the script. They don't know what is going on or what the rules are. Trying to swim around seems like a perfectly logical solution, especially if you think the mountains are the thing holding you in.

I think this has always been an issue but shit like CinemaSins really made it a fucking epidemic.

You can pick apart any high concept movie around because you have millions of voices critiquing a world that you built for the purpose of a two hour film. For example, even if the resort wipes the hard drives and records of the people that go there, surely they would have told family and friends where they are going. You could point out that resort guests that aren't being sacrificed would start to ask questions about what happened to the person they just had breakfast with, and you could wonder why they never tried to destroy the coral.

It kind of misses the point of the film, though. What is Old really about? At the risk of sounding like Dominic Toretto, it is about family; the family sticks together when the others fall apart, and the parents reconcile before their death. The kids survive because they work together. The premise is just a way to tell what is otherwise a pretty universal story. Signs wasn't literally about aliens and The Village wasn't really about scary wooded monsters. These are parables. You have to buy in sometimes.

I think you can accept the premise of a movie being ridiculous and go in with suspended disbelief while still expecting it to not abandon any available logic and/or reason simply for the sake of getting to the finish line in the most eventful way. Just because this beach is a fairytale doesn’t mean we should accept anything it throws at you because it’s just a movie. It’s not the Looney Tunes, it’s still supposed to exist in the “real world”

This was bad and doesn’t deserve more than dumb nitpicks & memes — sure, it’s low hanging fruit but to be critical about a movie this flawed is frankly pretty fruitless anyway. But I’ll read the room and bounce, haha. I kinda forgot people in here were also defending The Happening. Different strokes!

It’s a good looking, well made movie with bad dialogue and bad acting. That’s really all there is to say about it. It’s not offensively bad, but it’s not good either. I just looked and saw that it has a 51% average on Rotten Tomatoes right now and I think that’s about what I’d rate it as. Nowhere near as awful as The Happening.

There are actual things to criticize it for that don’t involve CinemaSins-level nitpicking.
