it's not his worst film and there were moments that were actually gripping but, yeah, if it didn't come from a director whose lows were as low as his, I don't think the reception would be as positive as it is

 

It is the opposite. If it was anyone other than Shyamalan, people would not be so vicious toward it.

 

I disagree, but that seems subjective considering reviews of this have been mixed. I personally went into this really wanting to enjoy it.

This movie managed to make Gael Garcia Bernal look stupid.

 

What a waste of an amazing plot. He does so much well. He tries so hard to get those "big corny reactions" , and does "cheesy on purpose writing", and just....

This would have been great if the characters were normal. The happening suffered from the same crap. Every sentence said was absurd. On top of of an absurd plot (not the issue).

I desperately wanted to love this because this plot is 100% up my alley. Even the ending was just silly.

I love that he tries to do new things so I'll always watch his films, but God damn sometimes

i'm surprised anyone would call this the worst movie they've ever seen, it could've been absolute bullshit on a script level (imo it wasn't and the whole name/occupation thing is related to the themes of the film) and it would still look incredibly gorgeous. the camera movements on the beach were so good at translating the decades of time they were barreling through anytime they walked across it

 

i was prob doomed to become a shyamalan stan lol

 

This was a good plane movie. There were still some very well shot and tense sequences. The dialogue was absolutely atrocious though lol.

So watched this….it was okay! Not great but still interesting. I didn’t think it was horrible for sure.

i will say the dialogue reminded me of the sci fi B movie stuff he had in The Happening, but unlike that movie I think he intended this one to be taken more “seriously” as a thriller, so it didn’t work as well. But still…it was interesting to see how the characters delt with what was happening to them.
