I’m very interested to see how they handle lightsaber battles in this. Disney era feels even more clunky than the original trilogy and nowhere near the choreography that went into the prequels. Every lightsaber fight in the sequels feels like they’re swinging 2x4’s.

The concept of lightsabers feeling heavy is straight out of the original trilogy. It also makes sense that people who were trained from childhood to wield lightsabers (as all the Jedi in the prequel trilogy were) would be better at swinging them.

The sequel trilogy has three of my favorite Lightsaber battles.

The duel in TFA and the throne room scene in TLJ are better than any lightsaber fight in the prequels imo

Kylo v Luke on Crait is also incredible. Yes I know there's no actual contact between blades, but I still count it.

Yeah I personally don't really count that as a duel, I just count it as goddamn incredible

I'm definitely looking forward to see where they go with this.

I agree that the lightsabers in the Disney era do feel a little too heavy for my liking, but it's not killing my enjoyment as the TLJ throne room is my favorite of the entire franchise. I think it has much more to do with the choreography of the fights.

I have a feeling that this show will have Obi-Wan looking after Luke on Tatooine until the Inquisitors come snooping and sense Luke, then Obi-Wan has to use himself as a distraction and lure them off-world? Idk

That would be my guess too.

Nah the throne room fight scene is terrible in TLJ. The choreography is so bad and inconsistent. Sure its cool looking with the red dudes and their fancy weapons but when you step back and think about it, its a bunch of random flailing for the most part... It doesnt even come close to something like Obi Wan & Qui Gon vs Maul or even the duel on Mustafar for that matter.

There’s so much in there of people doing the equivalent of that spin move shot in Boba Fett.

Mostly just some bad choreography, like the scene overall. Nothing is worse than this though.

The Obi-wan/Qui-Gon/Maul fight has so many of the same choreography flaws that people point out in the throne room fight. I don't want to rehash these same tired arguments, but there's so much more to the throne scene than just the choreography. What I love about it the most is the emphasis the camera puts on Kylo and Rey's connection. Shots are always flowing seamlessly between the two or framed in a way that shows their parallel actions.

This is a worth while breakdown of it if anyone wants to learn about it from an editors perspective.

This quiet Obi-Wan show a few of you are describing is not Star Wars and honestly sounds so boring.

Yeah every major duel in the prequels has moments just like that. Multiple moments even. You can't dunk on one but not the other.

Duel of the fates is the best one. Episode 2 is way too jarring with Yoda bouncing all over the place. 3 has it’s moments, but easily the most over the top flashy. 4 barely exists and is awful. 5 and 6 both great. 7, 8, and 9 all decent but clunky. The whole point of my initial thought though was how do they tackle Obi-Wan? Is he going to go from the light weight, extreme choreography to the heavier style?

Idk the Obi-Wan rebels episode is pretty quiet and pretty introspective and the fight is literally 4 seconds long and it's probably one of my favorite pieces of star wars content. I started this whole thing by mistake because I really, reeeeeeeally don't need to see a "rematch of the century" and didn't realize "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" stuck in so many peoples heads for so long. I kinda think it makes sense as a line without them meeting again but oh well.

As long as the galaxy’s best jizz-wailer Max Rebo shows up all will be forgiven.

I’d like to see more fights that rely on the force and less reliance on lightsaber skills. That’s why I like the Yoda vs Sidious fight in Ep 3 so much. It’s way more than just a lightsaber duel.

The inclusion of more force sensitives in general would be nice. Hope they eventually bring Daisy back and expand on the ground work they laid there.

I was just reading that she supposedly just signed on for 3 Star Wars projects. But it wasn’t a credible site so I don’t really buy it, but hey, who knows?

I think it’s worth mentioning that just because KK used the phrase, “Rematch of the century” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s gonna be an all out crazy lightsaber fight. It’s probably being overblown a bit for the hype and the rematch part probably refers to more of the stakes and excitement for these two characters meeting again. Do get me wrong, I still think there will be a cool fight, but I think it may be closer to ANH than RotS as far as the actual choreography.
