I once read that he destroyed his voice so badly that the doctor described his vocal cords as having the consistency of raw hamburger meat. Not sure if that’s true at all, but I think he needed some healing time.

Been doing a discography run through this week. I don't think I realized it at the time, but Dig Out Your Soul was such a great album to end on. There's a couple of songs on the tail end that are a snooze, but damn the run of tracks 1-7 is flawless. Bag It Up, The Turning and Shock of the Lightning might all be in my top 10 Oasis tunes.

Crazy how they had such a return to form after SOTSOG and HC, and even those albums have some gems.

Yeah. The last few tracks can be thrown into the sun. If they’d actually gotten Stop the Clocks and Record Machine recorded on there instead it would be a top notch album

Be Here Now is a killer fucking album. I hadn't ever listened to the entire album until only a little while ago, and was only really vaguely familiar with the singles, and even then not so much. There's been so much negative stuff written and said about it over the years that I was really expecting it to be terrible and didn't think I was gonna make it all that way through. I kept expecting to hit a song I would want to skip and it never happened.

I recognize that some of the criticisms are valid and completely on point but at the same time it's kinda fucking amazing haha. It probably would have been smart to shorten at least a couple of the tracks a little bit, but there's only one song on the entire thing that I wouldn't say is a great song, and I'm not completely sold on how everyone rips the production of the album as being terrible, including apparently the producer himself. The Noel remix of D'You Know What I Mean sounds different and has a different feel to it but I wouldn't say it sounds better, and I don't think the entire album remixed that way would be better, only different.

I think the big reason for the backlash on that album wasn't that it was bad, just that it was 1) extremely self-indulgent, in (IMO) interesting or at least funny ways; and 2) it's a definite step down from the two all-timers they made right out of the gate. But yeah, definitely a good album, with at least a handful of the best songs they ever recorded.

it's the biggest We Are On Cocaine Now album of the 90s. i put it on more often than definitely maybe, though. fantastic album and noel's guitar tone is out of this world.

every album of theirs has something good, intriguing, and unique about it enough to warrant putting it on.

Just for that album? Nah, they were on harder stuff way before that. I just think all the fame and ego went to their heads.

Agreed though, still a really good album.

There were definitely periods where I ranked Be Here Now as my favorite album of theirs. Don't Go Away, My Big Mouth and I Hope I Think I Know are top tier Oasis tunes.

My main critique is that songs like Magic Pie, Fade In Out, All Around The World and It's Getting Better Man are WAYYYY too long then they need to be. None of those songs needed to be longer than 4 minutes. To have All Around the World clock in at almost 10 minutes, and then have a 2 minutes Reprise? Urgh lol

they were on drugs before that album but it didn't come across in the music. be here now is pure excess. there isn't a more coked up music decision in that part of the decade than the choice to begin your album with minutes, plural, of guitar feedback and helicopter noises

It's a great great album. Sure, it's not as good as its predecessors. But it is clearly their 3rd best and it's a lottttt closer to the top 2 than others seem to think

You must be a Heathen Chemistry guy?

I will say this.........The Masterplan album (plus about 10-15 other B-Sides that don't appear there) are all right there for me with the first 2 albums, ahead of Be Here now even.

    The Masterplan is a masterwork.

    Definitely Maybe
    Be Here Now
    Masterplan
    Dig Out Your Soul
    Don't Believe The Truth
Standing on The Shoulder of Giants
    Heathen Chemistry
