Yeah I mostly focus on the guitars and drums when I listen to O' God. The vocals are just there.

Revisited O God and Redeemer.

Despite the vocals, O God is pretty relentless and still has some bangers. Certainly works in a pinch if you need something heavy for heavy's sake with absolutely no substance (I started it in an office and carried it over into my headphones while working out and strongly preferred the latter setting for it).

Redeemer was such a solid step in the right direction for them. There's a few all-timers on here for me (Small Spark, Amnesty, No Passenger) and I love how they began to incorporate a few tracks with quieter moments where they dialed it back. Really hate Blueprints and Swimming Circles though.

 

Okay, I can understand why Swimming Circles getting old, but I still love Blueprints.

 

Idk I never really liked it. Also feel like I heard it way too much early on (I'm pretty sure it was the lead single). Probably more of a me thing tbh.

Perhaps substance wasn't the right word. To be honest, I haven't considered the lyrical content in years but I do remember spending lots of time poring over the words upon its release (the song titles alone are pretty fascinating). I guess what I was saying was that the album now to me just seems more like background noise when I put it on. The vocals are monotone and muddled, like previously stated and a lot of it bleeds together. However, with all that being said, I still enjoyed revisiting it much more than I expected to. I don't know if any of that makes sense haha

 

Pretty weird little memory just unlocked as I was responding to you. I remember being in a church sunday school class that I was apart of and seeing "valley of indecision" and being like oh weird no way thats mentioned in one of the sub-titles in an o god song

It’s funny as for some reason I still love the album but know most people have it low down in their Cory Norma Jean lists so always intrigued to hear the analysis, thoughts and feelings behind this.

 

Ha, I had the exact same experience. Used to get that a lot with Solid State releases.

 

sadly this one isn't doing a lot for me. and i loved all hail.

Bc they get mentioned hand in hand so often (even though they don't fw each other) I'd still say if you put a gun to my head and made me pick an album from NJ and ETID's combined discographies it would probably be Wrongdoers

I'd take Radical, Low Teens and From Parts Unknown over Wrongdoers, my favorite NJ album

 

Radical is the one that’s making it tough for me. Probably between that or Weongdoers

 

Did they ever tour together? That would have been something to see.

 

Would have been a sick show. NJ was probably in their Anti-Mother stage back then right?

 

ETID supported Norma Jean during the Bless the Martyr tour. The Logic of Crocodiles music video was filmed at the show in Cleveland at Peabody’s.

 

I had the joy of exposing a friend to Wrongdoers for the first time recently, haha. He liked NJ a lot back high school (Aftermath/Redeemer days), but hasn’t really kept up with new music in ages. Can’t even tell you the look of joy on his face hearing those songs for the first time - mfer was howling at the end of Potter lol
