I remember seeing the tracklist and figuring Anna was gonna be some acoustic stuff and The Mirror and the Second Veil would be this gigantic, heavy epic track. Turns out it's the opposite lol

 

Still kind of wish Volunteer Tooth Filing was the name for Orphan Twin or Trace Level of Dystopia.

 

I just realized also that it’s Voluntary Tooth Filing, not “filling”.

 

I know it’s early but this has got to be their best album

 

Enjoying this quite a bit.

 

After first listen I think this is more consistent than PS but idk if the highs are as high. That said, PS dropped off a lot for me after that year ended so this’ll probably surpass it.

this will probably end up being my favorite from them, just from the 3-4 listens I've given it so far.

Just bought this without hearing any prerealese singles, it's really good. Loving it so far.

This album is a god damn gift

 

Initial impressions are that this isn't as good as the past few records, and regularly checking out Hickey's instagram made me anticipate more math-y riffs, but this still is solid. It's basically their full blown sludge album right? It feels like every other song builds up to a big, slow, and heavy part at one point. Further listens might help me differentiate the songs a little more so I expect it to grow on me.

The INTRODUCE YOURSELF bridge is one of my favorite parts on the album currently.

 

I just started listening to the Metal Sucks episode with Cory and learned about Hundred Suns. How the shit have I not heard this project yet?

The last little riff on Translational is so sick. Sounds like an old school Korn riff, but like, good.

 

Is there a metalcore album in the last 3 years that he doesn't have guest vocals on?

 

If it were me, the next two Norma Jean albums would be entitled The Almighty and Norma Jean.
