No Rome - Crying In The Prettiest Places (May 3, 2019) Album • Page 2

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by thenewmatthewperry, Apr 30, 2019.

  1. EP's not bad. I like the MySpace pop comparison above. I wasn't expecting anything reminiscent of Hellogoodbye, but "5 Ways..." and Rimbaud..." had some moments. "All Up In My Head" sounds like a track from a Dave Melillo mixtape.

It's hard to say how much I would enjoy the work if it weren't co-produced by Matty and George. Their sound is so intricately woven into the music that I can't fully separate No Rome from The 1975 when listening. Some Japanese House tracks are like that too. Track 1 here sounds the least collaborative and I love that, but I like the rest a lot too. It's just a strange relationship Dirty Hit acts have that I can't completely disregard.

No Rome is also a producer and helped produce some of the new 1975 album so I just think they're all working on stuff together, I like that this is more "mainstream" pop focused than the 1975 so they have an outlet for that.

No Romes old soundcloud is still up if you want to hear is older stuff, it's not that far removed from this maybe a little more lo-fi/shoegazy

  3. I did say "co-produced" by Matty and George.

I'll have to check out the old stuff.

I still can’t get over how good the first track is. Have probably been playing it at least 10 times per day.

A lot of the production and writing direction on ABIIOR is focused and more matured as an influence on this EP. The little sonic flairs that’ll happen across the tracks add to their depth and complexity. Rome has some lyrical and vocal strengths different from matty and simpler synth work which makes this release so fresh and unique. Hope he releases a debut record next year.

A lot of this early stuff from him has a early 00's movie vibe!

Great music video. Perhaps the first song I've loved from him on first listen.
