Does it seem like you'll need to have played the first XC to play this one? Like is it a direct story sequel or just another game in the same universe?

That's good. Interested in 2 but never wanted to play the first because the faces were so ugly.

It looks to be all new. You should play the original. It is a near perfect game.

i don't play a lot of RPGs and wouldn't consider myself super good at them. does the game have a high learning curve? would i be super frustrated?

No and no but it is long and grindy like any JRPG

No it doesn't. I'd say that it's fairly easy for the most part. It's more of an action JRPG. The story, characters, and environment are pretty incredible.

Some of the animation is rough, but it's not that bad.

    The combat is very MMORPG-ish

I know the Switch presentation did not deliver in terms of actualy clarifying that games are coming to the system, but that gane made by the Bravely Default team looks really pretty. I'm so happy "Japanese handheld games" are apparently still a thing on the Switch, I was afraid we'd just get "console games", if that makes sense.

Was that Octowatch or whatever? I liked the look of that.

@SpyKi Yeah they're still great at naming games haha. Also looking forward to playing I Am Setsuna on a handheld, since the Vita version never left Japan (also, I don't own a Vita, haha).

I still haven't played Setsuna, I want to at some point though.

My 3DS is used solely for handheld JRPGs and Nintendo franchises, as long as the Switch continues that I'll be very pleased.

We have some stuff actualy, like those "free old games for a month with added online multiplayer".

  24. SpyKi

Well yeah, the paid online will get I think one NES and one SNES game free for a month per month or something like that. No idea what games though or what's coming when. I'm also really hoping they have some sort of unified account for the Switch so if you buy an old game you own that game moving forward on any new Nintendo consoles. I doubt it but I'm hopeful.

I'd bet they continue with what they did with the Wii U - release a couple games a week, pay a buck or two to upgrade your "old" Wii U version to the new Switch edition.
