But yeah, I'd have bought a PS4 for Bloodborne alone so I was always going to get one and once I have one there's no need for me to have a PC. There's a cool indie game that's PC exclusive once in a while but they pretty much always come to consoles in time.

The customization and library of the PC is encouraging, but it seems like for every three games you play, one is a pain to get it to run right.

I see. I guess I only really bought Wii U for the exclusives either. But I'm always kind of rooting for Ninty's gimmicks since they're at least trying new things, and introducing new ways to play (ie dual screens). The downside is it doesn't always work and we're stuck paying extra for a feature we, or the developers, don't really use (ie 3D effect). Ultimately we all want different things from Nintendo but just saying personally I want them to stay in the hardware game for that reason.

@Morrissey that's what I thought as well, but it actually ended up being really easy. I was surprised at how simple it was. The last part you mentioned is probably for those trying to go for 120fps on ultra setting but if you have a good videocard you would never really have to worry.

I had to mess with my PC for a while today to get a PS4 controller to work with games. Rocket League worked natively with it, but I had to download an additional program to get it to act like an XBox controller for an older game. Then you read about all the disastrous PC ports out there.

Some ports are bad, but it's still miles better than the mid 2000s.

As a guy with 2 kids and a wife who aren't into gaming, the gimmick of off tv play was a huge plus for me. I've barely played my PS4, but have spent countless hours with my WiiU for that reason.

I'm using an X360 controller and haven't been encountering issues. I guess I'm just lucky to have not encountered those haha.

Well yes, because the XBox controller is supported natively. When I was using a PS3 controller, I had to download two programs and change some weird system on Windows 10 that bans you from downloading drivers. In hindsight, I probably should have just bought a 360 controller.

I don't understand wanting Nintendo to get out of the hardware game. They are the only company out there trying different things and attempting to push the market in a way that the other two refuse to do. You want "the best" graphics and the same controller you've used for 10+ years? Cool, you've got that option x2. I had a 360 for several years and hardly ever had fun playing locally with other friends/family. The Wii was the complete opposite and I expect the same to be true for the Switch. This is way more important to me than super cool graphics.

I also don't understand the argument of them just "focusing all of their time and resources" on software. They already make the best software, it's not even close imo. There will always be those that want more realistic graphics and whatnot, but I just want to have fun. Nintendo nails that. I just don't see how you could possibly be disappointed by a Nintendo console at this point. If you're expecting them to try to beat Sony and Microsoft at their own game, then you're going to be waiting quite a long time.

Edit: sorry for the rant, just seemed to be quite a bit of negativity popping up here the last several hours. :)

I want to take that fun and share it with more people. That is why it would be better on other systems.

@Snewt I wouldn't say it's entirely negative though, more of just this thread being critical. They have missteps in the past, so there is reason to doubt. It's really just too early to tell to how Switch will be received but as I said before I am optimistic it will do really well.

I like that the Ninty fans here are realistic and actually encourages discussion.

Even though I'm not as into video games as I used to be, I still see Nintendo consoles as supplemental consoles. They aren't trying to replace your Xbox or PlayStation. They lost that battle a long time ago. To try to now would be a disaster. Besides, what's the point in having 3 consoles that are almost identical. I like that they take chances.

    Then again, I don't know. I'm drinking.

Most people don't buy multiple consoles, so if that is how people look at them they won't sell again. When someone buys a PlayStation, they are accepting they won't get to play the XBox exclusives like Halo or Gears of War but they will get 90% of the games that PS4 or PC players get. If you get a Nintendo, you better love all their franchises because you won't be getting just about anything else. No Rocket League, no Overwatch, no Doom, no Red Dead Redemption 2, none of that. Maybe if you are lucky you get a game like Skyrim half a decade later when your hardware finally catches up to the old ones from the competition.

I had an A+ ranking, but I haven't played in like 6 months. So I'm sure I suck now.

By software I thought you were talking OS level stuff, which has always been poor.

In terms of videogames, sure the first party stuff is great, but how many titles is that a year max 3, 4?

Couple that with the fact that there is hardly any third party support and no the game library isn't the best by far.

That being said I really want to play zelda, splatoon and Mario but not enough to justify a switch purchase.

What y'all see as innovation just seems like pure gimmicky stuff to me.

Portability of the switch is cool, everything else? Thoroughly unappealing.

Yeah that was my fault for not being clear there. I was definitely referring to first party titles between the big three, because you are totally right as far as the OS/interface side goes.

It might not be the most common thing, but even since we were kids, most everyone I've known has owned multiple consoles. I guess based on my experiences, I don't see that argument that it has to be better than the others.

Of course I know this doesn't discount other people's arguments. Just giving my experience.

What weapon were you main-ing? I've never been good at shooters, but I'm trying to change that with Splatoon. Such a blast to play.

I always think it's weird when people own a Xbox and a PS
I bought 4 Nintendo published retail games in 2016 for the WiiU, but it was an unusually slow year. Though the VC and indie games kept my WiiU in use.

Other than MARIO and Zelda, how does Nintendo have the best software? Obviously the main title MARIO and Zelda games are amazing but are they better than games like Uncharted or gears of war, etc? Maybe, but it's close and Xbox and PS both have MORE exclusives of quality than Nintendo does.

Yes the wii was more fun with others than other consoles, but that isn't worth $50 more for the console when you look at the overall picture.

    Just a friendly reminder

Well, I pre-ordered the Switch and I have no issues doing so. I like playing the types of games that Nintendo makes and the types of games that are found on Nintendo consoles. I like loud flashy shooters too but they don't sell me a console.

Definitely quite a few more titles than Mario/Link related games. Pokémon, Metroid, and Pikmin first came to mind, but here's the full list of Nintendo-published games.
