I will wait a few years. Hopefully they release an updated version with a larger hard drive. The launch PS3 had more storage space than that.

Why should anyone have to do that when the competition is anywhere from 500 gigabytes to a terabyte?

Because Nintendo doesn't care about the competition, and they never have. And frankly, neither do most of their customers. If you expected them to compete with Microsoft and Sony this time, I don't know what to tell you. That's just never been their style.

I think Nintendo knows their competition is smart phones and tablets, not Microsoft and Sony.

idk I guess they don't have to, they can just buy physical like always, but it's what has made buying digital viable on the DS for years. And yeah, as has been said, I don't think the Switch competes with the PS4 or XB1 like at all

They are competing with Microsoft and Sony; saying otherwise is doing their advertising and marketing for them. "Most of their customers" equals a fraction of PlayStation 4 sales for the Wii U despite coming out a year earlier. That is why they are releasing a new console so early.

I think Nintendo is bad at making consoles and I want them to stop trying now. I'm over it.

I wonder at what point it would be more profitable for them to be a third-party developer in the first place. Imagine how many people would buy Mario Kart or Smash Brothers if it was available on Playstation/XBox/PC.

Nintendo will go the way of Sega if the Switch fails

I think if they just focused on their own games, making them the best they can be without being held back by their dumb hardware, they'd sell a ton more of them and put them out more frequently. I think them staying in the console business has more to do with pride than anything, and the Wii was recent enough that they probably still think they can have another success like that which I don't think is ever happening.

I try to talk to people about all the great experiences on the Wii U, but most people are never going to get a chance to play them. The success of Pokemon GO and Super Mario Run shows that there are plenty of people who are interested in Nintendo games but are not going to spend hundreds of dollars on a second console that gets none of the games the other three platforms do. Something like Super Mario Odyssey cross-platform would be one of the biggest sellers of the year. Having a huge Splatoon community would keep a game like that going for years.

Exactly. I know a ton of people who would love to play new Zelda or Mario games but don't care about Nintendo enough to buy a whole console for them. I don't see how Nintendo making consoles is really benefiting anyone at this point.

I am a teacher; anytime we have a day with a weird schedule (exams, pep rallies, etc) I bring in my Wii U. We play Smash Bros. and Mario Kart and the kids love it; nerds and jocks, boys and girls, all around the spectrum. These kids mostly grew up with the Wii or the DS, but all the kids playing games now have moved on to Sony or Microsoft or Steam. It isn't the fault of the games, it is the platform.

Definitely, the same thing happens when I bring friends over to play those games. I'd love to be able to play Mario Kart or Smash with friends online and most of the people I know would own them if they were on Playstation or Xbox. At this point it's almost a waste of the talent they have when those games aren't reaching their full potential or possible audience.

It's not a problem that Zelda takes up all the memory, as there won't be any other good games to compete for that memory space until X-mas :P

I personally never compare Nintendo with Microsoft or Sony. I always buy Nintendo and then decide between Sony and Microsoft. I bought a PS2, 360, and then PS4, but then always supplemented with the current Nintendo console. Though I understand I'm not the average gaming customer.

It seems like that Nintendo is trying to recapture the success of the wii with the switch and it's just not going to happen.

yeah I'm always weird about comparing them to Sony/Microsoft, then again I haven't bought a nintendo home console since the N64. However, I looove my 3DS and with handheld capabilities I guess the Switch is the spiritual successor to that which is my main draw really. So idk, I might not really be the customer they're looking for

absolutely. Which is the thing that disappointed me the most about this reveal honestly. I really thought they'd learned their lesson with the Wii U and were moving on to something more standard and focusing on real games for once, just with the added gimmick of portability which is actually cool and useful. Seeing so much of their stuff be focused on motion controls is just sad.

I would be so bummed if Nintendo drops out of the hardware market.

Just out of curiosity, asides from the exclusives, and the hassle of not needing any setup, is there any reason to get Xbox and PS over a pc?

I've always been trying to justify getting those, but just always end up back to "I'm better off with a PC".

  23. DeviantRogue

Nah. But exclusives are good enough at least on Sony's end to justify a PS4 imo, TLOU and Uncharted 4 and actual third party support.

I mostly stick to my PC though.

  24. SpyKi

Yeah exclusives are the only reason to get a console over a PC and Xbox's are all going to be on PC from now on anyway.

I personally just don't want the hassle of a PC, I've never enjoyed dealing with PC's in life and I'm far too happy with my consoles. Most of my favourite games are console exclusives anyway.

yeah mostly Sony exclusives. And I totally recognize the pros of PC gaming (games look beautiful, are typically cheaper, free online play, etc.) but none of it really outweighs the dumbed down simplicity of just having a PS4, but I've also become so much more of a casual gamer in the past few years that it's also just more practical.
