What's your fave Switch game?

 

Probably Mario Oddyssey. Then probably either Splatoon, Zelda, Xenoblade or Golf Story, depending on my mood. When I look at it as objectively as possible I however do understand that Zelda is “better” than say Xenoblade, so there’s that. I even think it has fewer flaws than even Mario, but I’m just a bigger 3D Mario fan than Zelda fan.

 

Totally understand. I just picked up the Switch a few weeks ago with Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and Tropical Freeze. Most def picking up Odyssey after I play through BoTW.

 

It’s probably also weird to say that I don’t like it as much as Mario because I don’t like 3D Zelda as much as Mario, as it is so different now and because I think it radically is improved so many things compared to other Zelda’s, like dungeons (unpopular opinion, I know). What I basically mean is I like the gameplay of 3D Mario more than the gameplay of 3D action adventures, even if they are perfect.

 

I know I'm in the minority but while I loved BOTW, there were a few things that really prevented it from being an all-timer for me

I still prefer Wind Waker

 

I also liked Odyssey more than BOTW

But yeah Wind Waker and Majora's Mask are both better

 

Sooo with all of these different opinions. Rank your fave Zelda's! How does Ocarina fit in?

Only one I strongly disliked though was Adventure Of Link

Was not big on BOTW for a while but it grew on me after it was the perfect game to play during a flight home where my wife and I had to sit in different areas of the plane

for console 3D ones

 

I've never played Wind Waker (made the jump to PS/Xbox instead of picking up a Gamecube). Now I feel like I missed out!

 

I think Wind Waker HD and BotW are probably equally “good”, but different to an extent where comparing them is difficult.

Personally, for me it goes: WW > BotW > MM > OoT > TP > SW

I’m not a huge fan of Oot (these days that it is, it’s certainly great in its own right) and I’ve never thought all that much of TP and SW in terms of gameplay.

EDIT: That being said I prefer WW over BotW mostly for its atmosphere and setting, not its gameplay and “mission design” (I really don’t like pre-BotW dungeons). If it would be up to me, the next Zelda game would be a BotW-like with a WW skin.

i also consider BotW as my all time. odyssey made me cry more for sure though, which is a weird thing to say playing a mario game.

 

I've only watched a friend play it a long time ago but I've heard nothing but incredible things.

It’s not exactly great, but still great. One of those, haha.

 

Links Awakening may very well be my fav Zelda game but i need to replay Seasons/Ages as an adult before i can lock that in. i drastically prefer a 2D Zelda over a 3D but i think that is just because there is wayyyyy more ARPG competition in the 3D space than there is in the top down 2D world haha. my top five Zeldas might be something like:

Links Awakening
A Link Between Worlds
Breath of the Wild
Ocarina of Time
Minish Cap

 

You'll missing out if you haven't played a link between worlds, only played it recently and it's already one of my faves

 

I only ranked 3D Zelda games on purpose, 2D is a different beast imo

 

ALBW was definitely a foreshadowing of BotW in hindsight
