Mario Kart Wii had a super fun battle mode. Tons of players and had the Coin Runners mode where you had to stock up on coins and try to hold on to them as time ran out. I was super excited for what Mario Kart 8 would do with the battle mode, but it as very clear they ran out of time while developing the game and just said "screw it". It was basically non-existent.

really hoping for another super Mario strikers. I loved that game on GC, but if I can at least play the original on the Switch that'll be fine as well

GameCube version was awesome, but I remember the Wii version lacking a bit... Seems like they forced you to buy more nunchucks to play multiplayer or something, as well. Hoping they can make some great Mario sports games for this console.

Idk if either of you have a 3DS, but they have a game in the works called Mario Sports Superstars. Has Soccer, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, and Horse Racing. All of them will have proper online tournament support. Looks p good so far, although drastically less stylized than Strikers and the like.

I could definitely do that! I'm not much of a portable gamer though, for some reason. One of the Mario Party games for the Wii had great mini games (not associated with the board game even). I'm pretty sure there was sand volleyball and hockey, but I felt like they nailed those for just being small add-ons, so I can only imagine if they make an entire game that way.

I think double dash was the last game that had the simplified version of ballon battle, which is what I prefer

The Wii had balloon battle, as well, but it contained way more players so the courses were much larger. I also preferred the smaller arenas for that. The coin battle made up for that in my eyes though.

Mario sports mix for the Wii was great. The 3DS game looks really cool, except for the horse racing (though I understand Japan loves their horse racing.)
I would love an American Football Mario game, but I would settle for another Strikers.

Maybe it was the team scoring aspect I didn't like, and you had a time limit with respawns. I guess I just liked the free for all last man standing gameplay of the earlier games.

Mario Kart Wii is underrated. It's in some ways the best entry in the series. My girlfriend really misses the casual driving settings and I wish they would have kept them.

That was one aspect I felt was missing from Mario Kart 8. Without the Automatic/Manual choice, anyone just starting wasn't good enough to have fun. Tons of people are familiar with the drifting aspect of MK, but Mario Kart Wii made it so easy for anyone to just pick it up and actually compete.

I still play Mario kart Wii with my siblings all the time. It was such a great game.

Right, it was especially great for people that don't play or intend to play any other games.

we still use the Wii to ether play Mario party 2, Mario Kart Wii or that Michael Jackson dance game because it's usually a hit at our parties

Been playing my wiiu a lot lately. Mostly MK8, which is one of the best in the series for sure. Online is smooth/easy/tons of fun.

Also just picked up Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival the other week as part of Best Buy's buy one get one 40% deal for WiiU and 3DS games (I also got ocarina of time for 3DS). And while Amiibo Festival is super lacking in features, it was worth the $10 I paid for it, especially considering it came with two amiibos. My wife and I have been having fun with it.

I still really want a Wii U just to catch up with all the games I missed.

It's been just weird to see no price cuts on it at all despite the Switch being announced and all that

also I need to get back into my 3DS since I need something to do during lunch at work.

I still never finished Fire Emblem Awakening.

I've been seeing a lot of videos/written pieces listing off what games people would like to see included in a hypothetical SNES Classic Edition. I put my own list together using the same parameters as the NES Classic (30 games only):

    ActRaiser
    Breath of Fire
    Breath of Fire II
    Chrono Trigger
    Contra III: The Alien Wars
    Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble
    Earthbound
    F-Zero
    Final Fantasy II
    (IV)
    Final Fantasy III (VI)
    Kirby Super Star
The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
    Mega Man X
    Mega Man X2
    Mega Man X3
    Pilotwings
    Secret of Evermore
    Secret of Mana
    Star Fox
    Super Castlevania IV
    Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
    Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
    Super Metroid
    Super Star Wars
Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

And I had to leave a couple off too. Although 30 SNES games are worth way more entertainment value than 30 NES games, in my opinion. The SNES is also probably the greatest console of all time in my opinion as well, so.

It would be worth $30 just for an official version of Secret of Evermore, which is ridiculously expensive these days from what I recall.

As for Super Star Wars...yeah haha. I just couldn't not put them on there. Although Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures was a contender for one of those spots. As were Mortal Kombat, Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, NBA Jam, Shadowrun, SimCity, and one of the Street Fighters, among others.

So, I have the 2DS, which plays 3DS games, and is one solid piece and isn't as compact as a 3DS. I have a gift card for Amazon and was thinking of snagging a 3DS with it. Is it worth the upgrade? Or should I just stick with what I have?

If you buy an XL I'd say yes. Otherwise no. A New 3DS could be worth it depending on what games you want to play, as some perform better.
