I think they announced earlier that, due to COVID, their 'E3' presentation would happen later in the summer.

Frankly if there is no E3 there is no good reason not to do your showcase or whatever when other companies aren’t doing theirs

Being obnoxious and quoting myself because only one person added me. I need more Nintendo friends people so that I can shower you with Animal Crossings surprises and trade Pokemon with people! And do whatever else you can do in online Nintendo Switch. SW-7064-6937-2404 please and thanks all!

The thing that has made me the most annoyed about all this is that just because E3 was cancelled that doesn’t mean the whole summer of announcements had to get completely jumbled up and scattered across the three months. It’s frustrating af. All the events should have still happened in June around the normal time for E3.

The only reason to announce stuff when everybody else is also announcing stuff is when there an event like E3 tied to it because the extra attention it is weighs more strongly than the competing announcements do. However, when there is no actual E3, too many people won’t give a shit, so might as well spread your announcements out so you don’t have to share what little spotlight there is.

I don't agree with that. I've much preferred the way companies have been doing it. I like getting new announcements every other week. Spacing it out gives me enough time to be excited about one thing and then move onto another thing right when I'm losing my excitement.

I've enjoyed what most companies have put together and done with their reveals.

I’m sick of not knowing when stuff is going to get announced or what’s coming up and when and what events I have to pay attention to or not. The hype of packing it all into one week was much better. The way it’s happening now it just feels like things are being held back pointlessly.

nah having a set time where they drop a ton of bombs back to back is way better

they’re literally just refusing to announce the Mario remasters for no reason, that’s annoying as hell

I feel like the lack of announcements is because Nintendo might be unsure if big titles this fall may have to be delayed

You don’t have to give a release date to announce something

Yeah I mean usually I also kinda like E3 week, I just mean it makes sense for companies to do it this way when there is no E3.

Overall I prefer short promo cycles though. That is also mostly how Nintendo wants to do it now they said.

there should have still been an E3, I guess is what I’m saying. “Virtual E3” should have been a thing.

Yeah they could have done that, but it probably would have gotten a little less mainstream attention

The problem with E3 was companies felt unnecessary pressure to make sure a bunch of games were ready to reveal all for one jam packed week even if some projects weren't ready. It also left other months with droughts of no announcements.

I think this is our gamer entitlement showing. Being conditioned to expect something we were never guaranteed.

The Mario reveals are quite possibly real, but they also might not be. Getting disappointed over something that was leaked, but never even given a date of release just because you assume something is ridiculous.

Oh I disagree, I think it would have gotten more mainstream attention. The way things are going right now makes it so much harder to keep track of, so only the enthusiast press is really paying attention. Having a focused event where everything happens makes it easier for sites that aren’t Polygon/GameInformer/IGN, etc. to cover it.

Yeah, I'm sure suddenly changing everything on a dime, all their press releases, marketing, live conferences, etc to a virtual one in the midst of a pandemic to fit into an arbitrary week is super simple.

Nintendo have said recently they usually don’t like to announce games if they are far away unless they’re looking for a dev team. The probably don’t want to showcase a dozen games and not give a release date for any, or say Fall 2020 and end up delaying them to 2021.

I want a direct asap too, we haven’t had a full sized direct for almost 10 months, but oh well.
