I've been playing a little bit of red and blue on an emulator on my phone with my son who's just starting to get into Pokemon a bit. I'm not ashamed to admit I used the rare candy trick

 

lol i've beaten the game 500 times 500 different ways. I'll use the rare candy trick on my growlithe whenever i damn well please haha

 

Whenever I play it I just use the same six Pokemon the entire time and don't bother catching new ones. When I get hypno that's the end of catching things and I just level it up and dominate.

 

I dominate with Kadabra, Growlithe and Psyduck.

 

I never made it that far in Shield. Just wasn't that fun. Maybe one day I'll pick it back up.

 

Red and Blue are the worst of the Pokémon games....... I will never revisit them.

 

I'm playing Fire Red for nostalgia and my team is Blastoise, Raichu, Vileplume, Arcanine, Dodrio, and Dugtrio. Caught a Chansey in the Safari Zone so that's cool

 

The wild area is cool but otherwise that game sucks

 

Weird to call the only option "depth" but ok

 

Sword and Shield are fine. There are a ton of quality of life upgrades over all of the other games. But the storyline is pretty lackluster, so I can see why folks might find it boring.

 

Let's just say he was as pissed as an almost 6 year old can be when he found out we couldn't catch all of the original 150 on either Red or Blue alone and also that we couldn't trade to get them.

God help me if my mom tells him she still has the OG Game Boys from when my brother and I were kids.
