Yeah it's very clear the concussion protocols failed and are woefully insufficient. Like I get why people want someone big to blame like McDaniel, but I think it's a little misguided because the whole point of having concussion protocols is because it shouldn't be a football decision. It shouldn't be up to the head coach and/or the player to risk it or tough it out, it should always be purely a medical decision made by doctors that are independent from the team.

 

I didn't see the video of Tua stumbling last week until just now... and it's an absolute yikes he stayed in that game (let alone played this week on a short week)

 

Man, I really hate this. Haven’t been able to watch much of the game since Tua went down. Doesn’t feel good

 

This is also why I'd take it off the field and do the exam in a separate space, with no team involvement. The pace of an NFL sideline, the pressure on their medical staff/coach to win, all of it adds up to bad incentives. I have no problem blaming the coach because they get paid to take the blame and are humans who should show humanity...but also its clearly a structural problem that billionaires could easily fix
