Don’t do The Maine dirty like that.

I know it unfashionable, but I find myself revisiting Chase This Light quite often. Pure, sugary pop perfection. I wanna hear Taylor Swift cover Here it Goes.

I haven't liked anything really since Futures until the most recent album. Aside from maybe 1-3 tracks from each album, I could not get into Chase This Light, Invented, Damage, or Integrity Blues. I had given up on the band. But Surviving was fucking incredible - I love every song on it. So now I'm stoked for whatever they have cooking!

Chase may be in my top two JEW records on any given day.

I think you underestimate how much JEW is the very bedrock this state is propped up with.

we’ll all just die. And maybe we would deserve it. lol

Best music news of the year, so far. I may be misremembering…but I’m pretty sure their last album rollout started with “Love Never” being released as a standalone single, right around the start of a (relatively small) tour. Then “Surviving” was announced as an album months later…which they later toured to support (a longer, bigger tour). I’m thinking the new album announcement happens sometime this summer, perfectly setting up a Fall release. But maybe I’m completely wrong…Either way, can’t wait to see what they have in the works. Music doesn’t get much better than what these guys create.

Not unfashionable whatsoever. It’s an incredible album that deserved much more popularity. Also Here It Goes should have been a hit comparable to The Middle.

    Or the summer set

  9. I had this thought as well, but the big difference here was that "Love Never" originally released a whole year and a half before Surviving, long before we knew that it would be attached to a full-length album -- potentially even before JEW knew that it would be on their next full length, since it was released alongside another side ("half heart") which didn't make it onto Surviving. Assuming that JEW will release the next album between now and October-ish, then I think it's safe to assume that they wouldn't be making tooooo big a deal out of the first single....that is, unless it has such strong hit potential that their label actually plans on a massive marketing push alongside the tour.

Wow I didn’t realize the two releases were that far apart! Funny how time gets so compressed in your mind…I would have bet the two were released like six months apart. Oh well…thanks for the clarification! I’m definitely hoping this coincides with a new album announcement. Either way, I just can’t wait for new music these guys.

yes, Damage has such great songs and just awful production. Maybe a live version of it. Something!

I like the production on Damage. That album's pretty good as is.

A lot of people have already backed you on this opinion being a good one. I'll go one step further. I honestly don't believe I'd judge any favourite album pick as "unfashionable" in the Jimmy discography. Every album hits different but still oh, so good.

Just here to back everyone saying Jimmy have never released a bad album. The 3-year Jimmy album cycle is one of the most consistent and exciting patterns I've seen a band pull off.

Nope. Chase This Light is the album that really got me into Jimmy Eat World. When I talk about my favorite Jimmy albums CTL and Futures are nearly interchangeable.

Very happy to see all the love for Chase This Light. I remember hearing some CTL demos before it came out and being disappointed (I was super eager to hear what they had next after Futures + Stay on My Side EP). The demos/my mindset at the time turned me off for a bit.

I only listened to the actual album a year or so later after I heard live versions of a bunch of the songs in that Paradiso set they did and it's arguably been my favorite record of theirs ever since. So many good ones to choose from obviously, though.

BTW if anyone has those Tempe session videos they did for half of that album let me know, ha, those versions are so good (especially Carry You).

CTL was released right before I left for basic training and was that, along with Taylor Swift's ST was the first album I bought after graduation. Listened to it so much in winter of 2018.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

Bleed American was my first exposure.

Futures was my first record to experience as a fan.

Chase was my first record as a more ‘mature’ teenager. Spent a lot of drives in my first car listening to it on repeat, and specifically that Big Casino - Carry You run.

Good lord that’s a great set of tracks.

aren’t they on Apple Music? They were iTunes exclusives.

I'll have to do a trial on Apple Music if so; they were just freely available on YouTube for the longest time then half of them disappeared.

Very close to my experience with them. Obviously was exposed to The Middle cause it was everywhere on the radio. And Sweetness was the main song on EA's NHL game that year. So I knew those two songs but didn't buy the album.

My friend bought my Futures for my birthday but other than a few tracks I couldn't get into the whole album.

Bought Chase This Light cause the album art looked cool and I liked the lead single. Spent hours playing that in my car while driving around. And it's CTL that got me to go back and revisit their previous stuff.

I've been listening to CTL plus the b-sides to start my long runs on the weekend the last few weeks. Absolutely flawless set of songs and "Open Bar Reception" remains one of their best. I've also been really enjoying "Be Sensible" lately.

I will still argue that "Dizzy" is their best closer and their third best song overall after "A Praise Chorus" and "Kill".

I’m trying to find open bar reception. I don’t see it on YouTube either. Bummer
