Listening to Coming Home today. As a whole, it might be my favorite album from them.

Is Coming Home the only album they haven’t released on vinyl?

I don’t think NGCS was ever truly signed off on by the band. And FTSTYS II if you count that as a album.

I remember a few years back the guy that runs Enjoy The Ride records got the rights to press Catalyst but apparently Chad blew up on him so he decided against pressing it. Don’t know if he still has the rights or not.

I just came in here to ask that. I'm sure it'll get released at some point. Hard to tell though, because they didn't mention that at all during the special...

I kinda wonder if they'll hold off until next year and do a whole vinyl thing. Either that or it's gonna drop on Friday, which always feels a little silly (I.e., dropping a Christmas thing on Christmas day).

All of those songs were super fun - and pretty unique in terms of lyrical content - so I hope they release it somehow.

Interesting. I thought Chad had always said label issues were the big hold up for catalyst and coming home.

  14. Apparently they re-recorded “it never snows in Florida” for their Xmas special, right? I wonder if they’ll ever do a full re-recording of NGCS. That’d be pretty awesome.

To say they "re-recorded" it is a little strong. Hah. It's an acoustic version. A pretty good one, so I'm not trying to downplay it but it's not full band or anything.

I'd love for them to do a re-recording of that record and release it on vinyl. Honestly, I wish more bands did that with some of their earlier releases. I like hearing the way the songs are "reimagined" after playing some of them live for years, etc.

One thing I don't understand throughout all of this pandemic stuff is labels holding on putting stuff out on streaming until they can press it on vinyl. I guess it makes sense if you don't expect it to really hit or whatever and you need to get the vinyl pre-orders locked in before the album drops...

But something like a Christmas album from a legacy act? That's guaranteed to get streaming numbers, and if it hits people in the right spot (like it hit me) you could really get some hype for the vinyl down the road. Because you're already locking it in as a "go-to" for people.

I'm sure the holiday special did that to an extent, but throwing it up on streaming services really would open the flood gates. And some of these songs are good enough that people would be stoked about them. That and it almost feels like they looked at all the songs that were already in the mix and said: "Okay, what topics haven't been covered?"

Anyway. This is all to say, I really can't wait for it to be up on streaming services and available on vinyl. And I'd be down for a holiday covers record too!

That song was the only thing from the Holiday special that made it's way onto youtube. Just checked now to share the link but it looks like it got taken down. It sounded good, though!

I guess in the case of Catalyst, the issue was he label selling to someone else.

I mean, given the circumstances I get the vinyl delays.

But waiting to release something non-physical because you can't press it or tour on it (and probably won't be able to do that for another 6-12 months) just feels like wasted revenue and time to me.

I think it's so funny everybody loves Coming Home. People hated it at the time. I listened once and was like this isn't New Found Glory as a bratty teenager. I got to give it an honest shot.

I've always loved this record. It felt like natural evolution to what that been doing before to me. It's No Your Fault may not have been as big or poppy as certain previous singles, but it's still very NFG. Sometimes the loudest fan voices when an album is released aren't taking the time to listen to a record and give it a fair shot.

Honestly, I really like Coming Home myself, but I don’t believe for a second it was the result of natural progression for the band at the time. It came out at a time when the sort of happy, upbeat pop punk they were typically known for was on the outs a little bit, and their entire aesthetic and demeanour (on stage and off) changed during that album cycle. Then, right after that record tanked, everything about them was back to their old ways for the next LP.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with any of it, I love that record, but everything about that album cycle felt like a conscious, premeditated decision to try to appeal to a different audience, not something that just sprouted up organically.

Don’t necessarily disagree, but i would still love it if they would try something similar again. I think it could really connect with a large portion of their fanbase that has gotten older and are at a different point in their lives.
