I don’t think I could handle an Arlington Road series after the last couple of years

Also hyped for Parallax View reboot series. Best of the 1970's conspiracy thrillers but often overlooked.

  5. I liked Waco. A new limited series this many years later is strange, but I like Michael Shannon so maybe I'll check it out.

I guess it is supposed to be for the 30th anniversary of the Waco siege. I guess with 1/6 they wanted to use that tell the greater story of the evolution of the extremist right in America and how it all ties back to Waco.

Fatal Attraction is fantastic and probably the best of the erotic thriller/yuppie nightmare movies.

What is weird to me is that it is on Showtime when the original was on the Paramount Network. It is like doing a sequel to a TNT limited series on HBO or something.

  9. Isn't Showtime merging with Paramount+ at some point?

  13. Speaking of, I also watched the doc on Peacock about the cult call Sex, Lies, and the College Cult. Coming off the heels of watching Stolen Youth, I didn't care too much for it BUT it did cover another victim involved in the whole thing who I'm pretty sure wasn't even mentioned in the Hulu series for some reason?

the best 1-2 punch is scenes so dark you can’t make anything out and sound that jumps from 1-100 constantly. Such a blast.

This isn't a way to excuse, but an interesting tidbit. A big reason for the dark scenes you can't really see is actually due to the method of viewing, not the show itself. When streaming TV or movies, the platform compresses the show a TON, even if you have a fast Internet connection or if you're watching in 4K. Due to the amount of data that streaming networks are sending out every second, they badly compress their shows, and the darks are what get compressed the most that you can't see sometimes.

This famously happened in the last season of Game of Thrones with the big fight scene, a billion people were streaming that episode and no one could see shit. BUT if you illegally downloaded the episode and watched locally, you could see everything fine!

So what's the answer? Physical media is one answer but that's often not possible anymore for most shows. Digital downloads also solve it, but that's also not an option for most streaming shows. Should show creators give up and understand the medium and make their scenes lighter? Maybe.

All this to say, there's also a move toward darker shows and movies in general, so everything is just compounded and dumb in the end

Might watch that Showtime doc about the murders that inspired Springsteen's Nebraska and Natural Born Killers
