Want to watch something true crime on Netflix tonight. Murder Among The Mormons or Trial of Gabriel Fernandez? I know Cecil Hotel has gotten shitty reviews so I think these two are my best bet based on things I haven’t seen.

  2. Murder among the mormons. Very well done, a quick three episodes, and takes a turn I wasn't really expecting.

the Gabriel doc is a hard watch for most due to the story itself and the very detailed, gruesome info. Just an FYI. Probably a “duh” since it’s true crime, but with it being based around a kid that makes it all a bit harder to stomach

I also will always recommend “Evil Genius” for true crime. That story is wild and is a fast 4 episodes but has been around awhile so most have seen it, but if not, check it out

I’m doing Murder Among the Mormons. Sounds lighter and it’s short/easy. Evil Genius was really good and super interesting. I knew about that case but didn’t know any of the details at all so it was fascinating to watch.

Probably wrong to say but the one “web sleuth” they keep featuring on the Cecil Hotel doc gives me serial killer vibes

I think the hardest visual/audio content that haunts me from a True Crime Doc still to this day is Don’t F*ck With Cats.

Mainly because I remember the events unfolding irl and also seeing the murder video when it was going viral online. I don’t even remember how I happened upon it, just that me and my girlfriend at the time were really messed up from seeing it. The cat videos I was not privy to until the documentary released.

Haven’t been back to true crime/web sleuth stuff since finishing that. It was too much.

I appreciated how short it was, and wish more crime docs did it, but Mormons was so damn boring. Admittedly I couldn't give two shits about them or religion in general, but what a crazy group of people.

  10. What? Boring? It was super engaging imo.

It’s a little dry in parts, but it picks up once the investigation starts. I made it halfway through the second episode last night before I got tired. I will say I could give two shits about the history of Mormonism or the obsession these morons have with the “historic” documents. This goes without saying, but Utah seems incredibly weird lol

I’m currently half way through the McMillions documentary on HBO Max and I have no idea how I never heard about this since my mom LOVED the Monopoly game.

The MCU sucked all talent out of the Russos, who were better filmmakers as part of Community to be honest.
