I do not at all like going to movie theaters and don’t care whether they exist or not

What communal activities have gone away? Genuinely asking I still see the same things available and the movie theatre here is always packed

I get that saying theaters shouldn’t exist is going obviously too far and is a troll but who cares if someone doesn’t like going to the theatre? Nobody cares if someone does like bowling or whatever other communal activity you’re into

Fine not going away but everything is more expensive and it's hard to find time and energy, malls are really the only place that disappeared that you can vibe

Lot of local businesses shutting down too. My go to coffee spot closed because the landlord tried to raise the rent 48%

It varies from area to area. We have bars/barcades, coffee shops, board game stores and bowling alleys all closing down. Other places some of those flourish just because the sheer amount of people, but a lot don't because rent is insane for those spaces and people can't always afford to go because prices have spiked and people being general dicks in public spaces has gotten significantly worse since the pandemic.

Also depends on what your local government is investing in and attracting. Too often they look for big industrial options because they believe jobs promises instead of investing in small local business and spaces people want to live in and be out in. Study after study shows the latter option is better for the local economy. I live in the Akron area which is not exactly flourishing economically and rent hikes and covid did close a number of things down but the town I live in invests in making it attractive for communal spaces. Things seem to be opening more than they’re closing but the city rents spaces out itself and goes out of their way to attract small business. I also feel like people are just out more post-covid. The biggest complaint I still hear from local businesses is finding employees.

Streaming could very easily end movie theaters. It’s a big possibility! Or theaters will just be shitty MCU type movies.
