Bring Me The Horizon - just about every album after Suicide Season has a big jump, but Sempiternal to That's The Spirit is probably the biggest
Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight to A Thousand Suns felt huge at the time to me
Paramore - Brand New Eyes to their self-titled is probably the biggest, though I think After Laughter is often thought of as the leap

Finch is always the first band that comes to mind for me. Granted they only ended up with three albums, but from What It Is To Burn to Say Hello To Sunshine was big leap. There are some hints on WIITB of the sound on SHTS on tracks like Grey Matter and Project Mayhem, but the difference is huge.

Back to Oblivion and the EP that came before it both felt like a merging of the two sounds. So you could almost listen to those in the middle of WIITB and SHTS and have a more natural progression.

I see it a lot for metalcore especially bands like Dillinger/ETID/Chariot

I never really got into La Dispute but that’s definitely not the word I would have used to describe them lol.

I fee like I’ve heard specific dissonant riffs described as angular

We reach for the longest shadow

Felt this was the best place to express this thought.

Y'all ever get so invested in listening to new music/music released this year in anticipation of making an AOTY list that you kind of forget about albums you loved from previous years that you really never listened to enough because you moved on to the next thing too quick?

I've found myself in a little mini-rut with music, and it stems from not being totally in love with tons of music that's come out this year, whether that's because bands I love have released stuff this year that isn't totally vibing with me, new bands not really meeting expectations, or just life stuff. I'm busy with work and studying for certifications, and I'm devoting so much time to my family/kid (totally a good thing!) that it feels like the first time in 10ish years I'm not totally stoked on an AOTY list I'll come up with.

But I just threw on two albums from 2021 that I love and am having a blast listening to. So I know that passion for the music I love is still there, it just isn't manifesting in the way it has in the past.

Anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this, other than 2023 not being my favorite year for new music, remembering to go back to albums that came out previous years when I'm in a rut, and not having to live in the "now" so much when it comes to my listening habits.

Real late to this, but I can definitely think of some.

Tokyo Police Club from Forcefield to TPC
Blur from The Magic Whip to The Ballad of Darren
Childish Gambino from Because The Internet to Awaken, My Love
Hot Hot Heat from their initial 7 inch and Split with Red Light Sting to Make Up The Breakdown

I would argue The Matches from Decomposer to A Band in Hope is pretty different

Panic at the Disco from A Fever You Can't Sweat Out to Pretty Odd then to Vices and Virtues

  19. I'm sure this one was mentioned, but Jimmy Eat World with Static Prevails to Clarity is a pretty big jump too.

  21. Born outta me listening to Three Cheers earlier today, what're your favorite transitions that streaming services have robbed you of? Two off the dome for me:

The Ghost of You -> The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You (MCR, Three Cheers)
With You Without Them -> $20 (boygenius, the record)

Why does streaming ruin transitions for you? You can make sure there's no silence between tracks

It still happens though sometimes and sometimes there's a delay depending on the app or the quality of your connection
