I know this is a few months old, but Bob Mould was just on one of the late night talk shows and performed - what I took away:

1 - He rocked it. Looked energetic. But last time I saw him, was like 1990. And he's not in his 20's anymore - lol.
2 - I actually haven't thought of Husker Du in ages... 10 years, I am sure.
3 - Warehouse... got me turned onto them, and alas, I missed the boat. But I caught up with the rest of the cd's, and loved em all.
4 - Sugar was good. I never liked Nova Mob (Grant Hart - and yeah, I had to google the name, because I forgot what the bands name was), and I couldnt remember anything about Greg Norton (which I googled too)
5 - Sugar was on Rykodisc from Salem, MA and friends worked there til it... I guess I dunno - moved, went under, or got bought out.... they also had Frank Zappa, IIRC.

I just listened to Pianos Become The Teeth for the first time. First song I heard was Say Nothing and I was a little teary eyed. So god damn beautiful.

  4. I just finished watching Christine, and the last line spoken by the female lead is "God I hate rock n roll."

I'm pretty sure there's a pop punk song that starts with that line. Anyone know which song I'm talking about?

one of the coolest things is discovering your favorite bands' favorite bands and hearing the influence for the first time

    I see Husker Du mentioned.

That's one band that I just haven't managed to get into yet.its weird because so many of my favourite bands cite them as a huge influence but nothing has really stuck yet. Zen Arcade came close.

Maybe something will just click one day.

I think one of the best things to ever happen to me was Brand New putting that Listen To section in the liner notes of Your Favourite Weapon. That was how I discovered Elliot Smith.

Not a Train fan, and that mix doesn't compute

they've done Ramble On live before, they have some of the worst lyrics ever but I can't say anything bad about a release for charity without feeling like a dick

I thought Drive By was kinda catchy the first couple times I heard it, but then I heard 50 Ways to Say Goodbye, which is off the same album, and it's pretty much the exact same song haha.

Been listening to a lot of a Wilhelm scream recently, anybody heard any more about this album and ep they plan on releasing?

They've been working on it for a while. I'm pretty sure it's dropping in the fall/winter, though.

I was born in a swamp, born with no clothes on

Anyone else hate when the CD you paid good money for doesn't have the tracks tagged? just shows "No name" or something for every song when I play it in my car. So frustrating! Even more so, it seems like the lesser known bands I own CDs from have the songs tagged and the more mainstream bands don't....

So I've been doing my own kinda personal project over the last few years, going back in time year by year and creating a single CD mix of that year. All mixes are 20 songs long and have to flow well, etc. As I'm going back, I'm also keeping a log of top albums from that year for myself. The way I do this is run through all the albums and singles from the year, then pare it down from there for the mix.

So now I am starting1998 and I want to ask ya'll..

What are your favorite 1998 albums, what are your favorite 1998 singles/songs, what might I be missing?
