45 movies for 90$ since mid December. 2 dollars a movie? More than worth it.

  2. Never signed up for moviepass because i was always skeptical of it but I did sign up for AMC A List this weekend and broke it in with incredibles 2 last night. Seeing Ant Man and the Wasp tomorrow night. So far so good.

Because they created that program to compete with moviepass...a company that sounds like it's going under very shortly.

Now to tell you the truth I think the amc deal is genius and actually makes sense business wise so I think they're very happy with the idea

But they never would've done it without moviepass...a defunct company after a year

  4. I kind of agree with this but they’re also really pushing for sign ups at the theater. You can tell once you’re in an AMC that they want as many people as possible to sign up for this program, I think it’ll be around for the next year as is if nothing else. There’s also a mandatory 3 month minimum when you sign up and your price is guaranteed for a year.

Yeah with how hard AMC is pushing a-list it would be a very bad move and a PR nightmare to pull the plug on it so quickly. They push it after previews, at the ticket counter, and at the concession stand. And unlike moviepass they aren’t bleeding money every time someone buys a ticket and are probably more than making up for it in concessions.

Everybody I know that has a list mentioned the perk of having a shorter concessions line which makes me assume they all constantly get snacks, so I’d say AMC is doing just fine with a list.

Moviepass update: all movies currently working on my end, mission impossible and leave no trace are blocked out but besides that all major chains and the independent theaters are all up and running.

I can't speak for AMC but this isn't true for Regal. Regal had been developing a movie pass like system for several years before Movie Pass came out. They just hadn't decided to actually implement it.

Mitch Lowe said the app would not make Christopher Robin and The Meg — the two major releases hitting theaters in the next two weeks — available to its subscribers, and he implied that the practice of not offering tickets to major movies would continue for the foreseeable future.

I was prepared to have to wait for Regal's answer to A-List... so even with the limitations, $15 a month to be able to go to Regal and Landmark theaters is better for me

They never had a problem with the concept of the subscription, they had a problem that it could be used at any theater because that meant less money for them. It's guaranteed with A-LIST because you're locked in at their theaters and it's for a minimum of 3 months. Not to mention they get straight up all the concessions as well.

MoviePass had to die for others to flourish. Oh well.

Yeah just give me regals plan. I have 4 theaters in town I go to, 3 of them being Regal. I'll just pay out of pocket for our little art house theatre

HMNY stock teetering awfully close to their all-time low. Less than 1/3 of the valuation it had when the press release went out this morning. And they've still gotta pay back the loan(s) this week.

The AMC deal is very different because they aren't paying themselves full price for a ticket and theaters make their money through food and drinks. I remember reading somewhere how MoviePass increased concession sales, but the theaters never really kicked anything back to MoviePass. AMC also benefits by capturing customers in large metropolitan areas with multiple theaters. You will see a showtime twenty minutes later at the AMC because you are already paying for it. MoviePass never had any of those advantages.

I probably spend 90 percent of my theater time between November and January, so I have never had much interest in monthly subscriptions, but as more theaters create their programs everyone will be able to sweep under the rug the problems of declining theater attendance.

At least until Disney finishes buying all intellectual property and demanding 100 percent of the door for the entire run of movies.

Even at $15 a month and peak pricing/no new releases for 2 weeks, I'm still gonna stick with MoviePass for now.

Since I can get etickets at a few theaters nearby (which peak pricing doesn't affect, not sure if the 2 week hold will apply to eticketing or not)

Also I watch more indie stuff than blockbusters anyway so I need MP to stick around for Landmark and the other indie theater.

Yeah I'll still stick with MoviePass, at least till November when my annual is up. The only AMC in my city is about 15 minutes away and is a fairly small theater compared to the rest. I have a New Vision theater that's about 5 minutes from my house which is what I usually go to.

I might make the switch to AMC, Five dollars more a month and it includes IMAX and I can order tickets from home, seems like a win/win except for an arm and a leg for concessions.

    run away with me Platinum

There are no eticketing theaters by me so I will never be able to confidently use Moviepass ever again without being anxious that it won't work
the 1,000 screens rule also seems arbitrary, and the 2 week embargo matters with a movie like Crazy Rich Asians where opening weekend turnout is crucial
so I think I'm gonna cancel and do A-List and Sinemia
