I'll see if I can find the article.

So I'd like to apologize because I was paraphrasing earlier, but here's the article I was talking about:

MoviePass CEO Says AMC Is Attacking The Company | PYMNTS.com

And the quote I was paraphrasing was "Of course, we’re burning cash, but so does Amazon. And then there’s Netflix, doing original content and losing $4 billion this year,"

  3. Both Netflix and Amazon turn a profit, and their business models (and how they could make money) were apparently from day one. He's an idiot. Netflix's second quarter ended today with $384 million profit on $3.91 revenue. Amazon literally prints money.

He's just bent out of shape because other people are finding out how to do his idea in much a much better way. Of course AMC was going to make competition since he directly and probably permeantly interrupted and altered the way movie goers pay for tickets. He's acting like he's innocent in this. "Why AMC?! What did we ever do to you?!"

annual subscriptions don't get hit with surge pricing until their year is up so it makes no sense to cancel it at this point.

I didn’t know yearly subscribers were exempt from surge pricing. That would explain why I haven’t experienced it yet.

How is MP here? I just signed up so I’m waiting for my card in the mail, I have a free month so I figured I would try it out, if I don’t like it I do like the AMC plan also. I live in Plymouth so i generally go to the smaller cinemas out here.

What do you mean how is it?

This past weekend was the first time I noticed surge pricing, if that’s what you mean. And today it looks like none of the movies are, so I’m guessing that for now it looks like it may be limited to the weekend.

I just looked it up and unless I’m mistaken it looks like the smaller theatres around the city are either independent or owned by Landmark - Uptown, Lagoon, Edina, St. Anthony Main, Riverview...

I’m fine with going to an AMC theatre but I always prefer going to those when I can, and they all tend to play both mainstream and indie films any way. So personally I have no intention of doing some company-exclusive version of MP any time soon.

Having to miss a movie due to peak this weekend sucked, but unless my local AMC gets 10 more screens and starts playing indie films I’m gonna ride this out until the Alamo Season Pass becomes more than a waitlist.

No peak pricing today though so I guess I’ll go see Skyscraper or something

Yeah I was more so implying if there was any difficulty in using it at theatres around the cities and how the surges have been recently, there’s an emagine theatre and Plymouth grand 10 which I frequently go to, so I will guess I will see how he surges are at those places.

MoviePass’ list of its 12 most popular summer titles is below.

of course it's impossible to say how many are going because of Moviepass

Having seen 9 of the 12 with MP, that list isn’t totally surprising. But I would’ve seen 8 of them without it.

Pretty sure im jumping ship for AMC. My AMC theater is the only one I use it all, and getting cash back from concessions, cutting the line, preordering online days before, no surge pricing, is a little too alluring right now.
