That was pretty much how I thought Burns would look in that first round. Dangerous striking and a grappling game that Usman did not want to fuck with. He definitely showed that there’s at least something there that gives Kamaru problems.

I was afraid Usman would adjust and know exactly how to drain his gas tank after the first round, but I was very surprised at how he was able to break him down with his striking like that. That jab was absolutely crushing Gilbert. He may not be the most exciting guy all the time, but holy hell, how does he keep getting better?

  2. He’s basically cleared out that division.

  3. Oh so he called out Masvidal. I’d love to see that fight again. The first one was boring but I think a rematch they’d go at it more. Usman wants blood.

  7. So is Dana actually saying he is going to do a lightweight tournament?

I think if it happens it’d be cool to see Conor v Tony with the winner getting Gaethje and then Chandler v Oliveira and that winner getting Dustin. After those two fights you have your title fight.

Looks like Stefan Struve has retired again, but this time it appears to be for real. TL;DR - he caught a viral infection last year that gave him a lot of problems with his ear (loss of hearing, tinnitus, vertigo, etc.), but those symptoms were supposedly going away and healing as he rested. Whenever he took his last fight, he got punched in the ear and those earlier symptoms are now apparently permanent.

Really hate hearing all of these stories about these guys being forced to retire due to damage, but you have to know to expect that at a certain point. Struve should have stayed retired the first time when he was going out on a win. Instead, he came back and got kicked in the groin THREE times by Rothwell before getting TKO'ed then suffered permanent hearing loss in his next fight. I just hate seeing them take unnecessary damage when they've already expressed their lack of motivation to compete.

Yeah that was a really unfortunate read for me as well.

In other news, I really don’t know why Usman wants to fight Masvidal again. That fight made both of them lose steam, and I don’t see how Masvidal has earned an immediate rematch/title shot. Both Wonderboy and him are 3 for 5 in their last 5 fights, and one of those Wonderboy beat Masvidal. I feel like it should be him next. He can’t rematch Pettis or Till who both left the division, and he’d steamroll Masvidal again so just give him the shot.

Plus, if Usman wins that’s a big name added to his belt and leaves virtually no top contenders left.

I think he probably sees it as an easy fight that will probably make him the most money.

  11. They could do Wonderboy v Burns on the same card as Usman v Masvidal

  12. Actually, Wonderboy v Colby would be better

I hope Colby plays stupid and stubborn and refuses to fight anyone until he gets a rematch with Usman, and then eventually is cut. But one can only dream.

    Well what do you know.

  15. should’ve fought Wonderboy.

  16. He only wants to wrestle fuck Jorge.
Literally has no intention of fighting clearly.

  17. I hate Colby as a person but I do want him to fight again. It's always entertaining.

I genuinely don’t find Colby even a little bit entertaining.

Dana shouldn’t reward Colby for wanting to wait to fight Usman/Masvidal. Colby hasn’t done enough to earn another title shot. He’s beat a slumping Woodley and that’s it. He’s fought once in 14 months since getting stopped by Usman.

Regardless if it’s on short notice or if they wait for a full camp, Edwards/Covington makes a ton of sense for number one contender. If Colby refuses to fight give his spot to Wonderboy. Masvidal at least has the excuse that he took the fight with Usman on six days notice.

  20. Idk why this is surprising but Curtis Blaydes says he’s NEVER spoken to Dana White.

    That’s insane to me.

dudes a heavyweight contender and has never talked to the boss lmao

This whole situation is exhausting. Jorge, Kamaru, Leon and Colby are all so obnoxious acting like no one is worthy of fighting (Usman has earned that right, at least, but he's out on a medical suspension). Then they all claim they've been trying to get a fight with someone else who doesn't want it and then cycle continues. Then you have Wonderboy who's just trying to fight anyone at all.

Usman vs Thompson is the most exciting possibility at Welterweight right now. I could not care less to see Usman vs Masvidal II and I can’t believe people online think that’s enticing. Full training camp or not Usman will shut him down again or maybe finish him like he said.
