this is really really cool

 

I often think about Mitski's ability to write about identity in her music.

 

im late to the party on this, but this album is really damn good.

 

I'm glad she addressed her ability to be concise -- this cutting brevity that implies more than it really gives. Gives the maximum amount of meaning with the minimum amount of words. I'm glad she mentioned how she has to be that way, kind of ensure that people keep coming back to hear more.

Yeah, that Lucy Dacus record is great. "Map on a Wall" is probably in my top 10 songs of the year.

 

The Lucy Dacus record is proof that if you are a minority and aren't twice as good as a white dude, you will get lost in the shuffle and that is fucked up. It's at least on par with a lot of the stuff making people's year end list, for example, but is not really making those slots. I don't make year end lists, but in general the year end lists of publications is a good way to kind of measure the representation of artists in certain genres imo and indie rock is still lagging, despite Puberty 2 making appearances in most. indie rock, and guitar music in general, is heavily into tokenism. I still don't feel like I listen to nearly enough non straight white dudes though, but shrug I will say I'm making a conscious effort to get familiar af
I realize im not saying anything new but it was just really bothering me as I discovered that album recently and it sucks it took so long
