Decided im going to do a discography play through this week starting with A to B Life if anyone wants to join.

 

Don't tempt me with a good time

 

I have very similar feelings to Untitled. An incredibly challenging, dense, rewarding album, that only improves with the passing of time. Reading along to the lyrics with references on the Genius page is such a wild ride. Aaron is a mad man, in the best way.

 

Aaron mentioned in passing on First Ever Podcast pt 2 that he has several melodic songs that he wrote for the band but never made it to record and "figured I'd do something with in the future, but that future hasn't come quite yet"

got through A B. Kind of wild how from song one of album one all of the things that make MWY who they are was present. This record is a stellar first release. Also love mikes leads on enemy. Love that it got in the steady rotation after they did the album play through. Wish we had more vocals from him. It’s a raw album and a bit rough around the edges but it’s killer.

Foxes builds on AB so well. lol Torches and January are both killer openers. Couldn’t choose so just did both back to back. This one builds on everything from the first record but it’s tighter and better production. In this play through I am realizing how Aaron gets the cult following love, but musically this band is unreal. I don’t listen to foxes as much as more recent records, but there’s no skippers. Amazing sophomore album.

 

Did Brother Sister - 10 stories.

Brother Sister rips. Can’t believe they got Jeremy from Sunny Day on there. This record is where Aaron really hits his stride balancing singing, screaming, and spoken word. The Arabic part on Dryness is one of my all time favorite MWY parts. So many killer live songs from this record.

I have a soft spot for It’s All Crazy. This was the first record that really sent me down the MWY rabbit hole. I get why people don’t love it, but i am always for bands taking big swings 3-4 records in. One of my favorite front to back listens from them. Timothy Hay is top 3 for me. Allah, allah, allah has become a favorite.

I had always seen 10 stories as a lesser version of It’s all crazy, but really dug this play through. It has some of my favorite songs from them. One of my all time favorite live moments was seeing MWY on the Underoath farewell tour. When Aaron busted out the accordion during all circles it was peak MWY.

Having a blast blowing through the discography. Highly recommend if it’s been a minute.

Also the Jeremy Bolm pod is so good. Most interviewers are so enamored with his spiritual beliefs. This one is all deep MWY lore. He seems to have been away from music long enough to be very fond of it now. Stoked to hear he is in such a good spot. the world needs those Aaron written songs that were written and recorded during the untitled releases. Wish they would have been added to the EP and it would have been a double album.

 

thanks for the podcast rec! i had ignored it assuming it was mostly the spiritual stuff.

are people aware of the soundcloud album of covers from probably the late 90s that includes Aaron, Mike, and Dan Pischock? from my memory, it was a compilation that friends made while this person was sick but i can't find reference to that backstory right now. so maybe that part's not true. but i don't recall ever seeing anyone share this so i'm not sure if it's common knowledge or what

there's a second album of covers too which includes one from Greg and one from 'CK-NK' which I assume is Chris Kleinberg and his wife Nikki

 

Pale Horses & untitled are the MWY Magnum Opus IMO. I have a soft spot for pale horses. Every song on that album is perfect to me and the red cow video is my all time favorite music video. Untitled is their most dense and impactful record, but it’s a mood listen for me.

Is there a band from this era in this genre that even comes close to a bigger journey through a discography? This band is so special. This play through was so fun.

My power ranking based purely on personal feels and not objectively best sounding albums.

I wouldn’t disagree with literally any ranking because everything they’ve ever done whoops so much ass.

I hope they secretly write and record an album in the next 5 years. Aaron often says there’s no way they’re done forever. I would be happy to get some more music and very limited runs of shows and tours.

 

if it wasn't for your earlier comments, i wouldn't even know if that list was top to bottom or bottom to top haha. not many people put catch below the top 1-2 spots

i wonder if he's anticipating full swing new music etc or just some nostalgic shows later on. if he lived around philly i feel like they'd at least do an annual 'secret' christmas show

 

Now THIS is some deep mewithoutYou lore that I was unaware of.

 

I recognize Foxes is a fan favorite and don’t deny it’s incredible. It is all about when the albums came to me or which ones I put on most often. If it helps both of my MWY tattoos are catch for us the foxes references lol. There is no bad record from them.

 

Catch is great but i almost feel like i like the band more with each album

 

Listened to both parts of Jeremy’s pod with Aaron. The man is truly such a delight and I can listen to him talk about whatever for as long as possible. Also undeniably the most polite human being to walk the earth. Happy to hear he’s opened himself up to being more available for podcasts and speaking as a part of his teaching position. Hell, I’m thinking about starting a podcast just to invite him on

 

He said he's thinking of doing "one more", so hurry up ;D but yeah, those episodes were one of Jeremy's best, really touched me a few times there, Aaron is truly such a genuine person

 

Subscribed to the patreon to hear the bonus Q&A. he said he has more pods coming. He said his favorites are untitled, Brother Sister, and AB. Can’t recommend the pod enough to die hards.

 

Easily my favorite music podcast and yeah the Aaron eps hit. Liked the bit about tooth and nail hiring a vocal coach. Aaron seemed to take it in stride and use it to his advantage.

Been feeling grateful for the Live release. Can't wait for the next ones. It was exactly the mewithoutYou content I needed in 2024.

 

Also, did anyone see their Instagram got hacked? Feel bad for them as they obviously had a huge number of followers and I imagine it was a good purchasing funnel to direct people to buy the merch. Hope they get it back at some point.
